Hi I was wondering if any one has taken Lopressor tartrate ( metropolol)for skipped/ fluttered heart beats? If so, has any one had any success?
I have been on it for well over a week, maybe closer to two weeks now and I still continue to get these annoying flutters. Sometimes they are a bit violent and scares the pants off of me.

Hope some one out there can share their experience.

Rembember, with Jesus all things are possible.

Hi Kim Doc,
I have taken the generic for Lopressor, Metoprolol and it worked pretty well for me. It would immediately slow my heart rate down. I have only had to take it a few times when I have terrible anxiety that has lasted for several weeks. My heart rate would get high and would run high day, after day, after day, so the cardiologist that I went to prescribed that and I only took it when I was having the high pulse rate. I only took 1/4 of a 12mg tablet I think. It was lowest dosage they had, and I only took 1/4 tablet (being that I am so sensitive to meds). That small amount would work perfectly for me. I did notice that somedays I would feel weak when I would take it, but then again, I know that depression and anxiety can drain you also. I did still get the rapid heart rate, and I did wonder why if I was taking the med, but again, I was not taking it as scheduled dosages, only when needed, so most times I would take it only once a day and that would keep my heart rate down, and sometimes after about 12 hours I would have to take another 1/4 tablet.
Try to give it some time, and also once the anxiety settles, your heart rate will come down. Trust me-I know very well.I have had a very high pulse rate several times with anxiety, and I was really worried in thinking something was wrong with my heart, and thinking it would NEVER beat normal again, but it always does once my anxiety settles. I don't have to take the beta blocker on a regular basis at all, but I do keep it on hand just in case I have that happen again.
Hope this has been helpful.

God Bless!

Thank you for your support and kind words.
I guess I should have mentioned that I don't have a fast heart rate. These flutters come even when I am relaxing in bed. When they occur, my heart is beating at a normal rate.

They are so frightening especially when they come is a group of 2 or so. It feels like my heart wants to jump out of my chest.
I think part of my problem is, that I dwell on them which is increasing them becuase of anxiety. It's a vicious cycle I swear!

Hi,
Okay, so you have the fluttering going on. Well, it will subside. I pray that it does very soon. Anxiety is frustrating and all of those symptoms are caused by anxiety. I would have the fast heart rate, and that was exhausting to me! I pray that you feel better soon.
