Completed the program over a year ago. When I first discovered that I had anxiety and started to get symptoms 3 years ago, I would get head shivers or a tremor among other things when I was nervous. If I am nervous while talking to someone in person or someone is talking to me I would get these head shivers. It feels strange and seems so uncommon. The head shivers that I had in the last few years were mild. I few days ago I was in a situation where I became nervous with someone and it was like uncontrollable head shaking (not even my hands or any other body part). When I'm alone or not nervous, I don't experinence it. Can anyone relate or any feedback?

My friend I am so familiar with what you are going through. Anxiety makes many people have tremors. Mine are very severe when I am anxious. For years I had myself convinced it was a tumor or Parkinson disease but it is anxiety. You may have familial tremors - which runs in the family. It is annoying but something that is not serious...

Do any of you work? It is just so embarrasiing if I have it at work. Since it is tremors from my head, I can't see them but sure they are visible.

You are right StevenFarrisOhio, I had a family member that experienced it in the past. When I first had them I used to think it was a physical ailment but know that it is anxiety.

Thank you both for responding. It helps to hear from others.

Yes, it is very embarrassing to have tremors at work. Those around me have learned it is something I have. I am diabetic as well and this exacerbates the shaking. There is a very effective BP medication called propanalol (spelling?) that can help reduce the severity.

I have these as well. They come and go, but seem to come on when my anxiety is high. A lot of the symptoms I have are similar to MS, but those same symptoms are linked to stress and anxiety as well. Way too much to think about and that just gets everything started again. STOP IT PLEASE!!!

I study genetics as a hobby and have my genome mapped at 23andme and deCODEme. Tremors have many causes I'm sure but the 2 main ones we study on the genetic websites are Essential Tremor and Parkinson's disease. I've read that both are related to the same genes but one genotype confers risk to one, while the opposite confers risk for the other. In my case, my genes make me high risk for Essential Tremor, which is in my family history, and low risk for PD. I have developed a tremor in my thumb, but nowhere else yet. My understanding is if you tremor while using the body part it's Essential tremor; if you tremor while at rest, it's PD.

That said, your "tremor" may not be tremor at all, but a nervous tic. If you had PD or Essential tremor, mental stress makes it worse but it would still happen. My thumb tremors whenever I hold things especially a book, nervous or not.

Either way, scaring yourself about it is worse than going to the doctor and getting the facts. If you're truly concerned, make an appointment with a neurologist. Going to the doctor won't make it happen and you'll probably find out it's nothing, and you can stop worrying about (and probably stop tremoring :)).
