For the past year or so, I've delibertly stopped going to movies that may upset me or make me feel anxious. Anyway, I just got home from seeing The Dark Knight and had absolutely NO anxiety... I will confess I had to close my eyes a couple times and had to take some Excedrine because the background sound was BLARING- couldn't even hear some of the dialogue.

I'm not a big action/comic book fan (think the last one I saw was Superman when I was a little girl), but Heath Leger's death really struck a nerve with me given I have been on nearly all the prescription meds he was during his death (never taken any pain Rx). And, some of these drugs were prescribed to me by the SAME psych. at the same time (Ambien/xanax/ativan) with little or no caution. Anyway, I felt compelled to see his performance, because to some degree, it was following his death that I REALLY began to research meds and become an advocate for my own health.

And, yes, his performance is incrediable (same with his portrayal of Bob Dylan in I'm Not There).

Hi Fischee,
Yes, I'm a movie neurotic! I can only watch boy meets girl type movies. I miss Julia Roberts soooo much! I can't watch nature movies or animal movies because I am afraid an animal will get hurt or killed!
So it is HGTV and TLC on TV for me. My doctor told me not to watch CNN because I was having nightmares for a while.....
Maybe I'm not missing all that much. Now, I have time to talk to nice people like you!
Blessings,
Jackie

You know the news or movies didn't seem to bother me that much before or at least I didn't notice it till I started reading about others on here being bothered. The other night I'm watching "The Titanic" which I've seen before and this time I'm sitting in the dark by myself and getting all nervous and uptight. I'm also finding it's better I seldom watch the news. So why now is it bothering me more???

There are times when I am more sensitive than other times, but I seem to be very sensitive in the last 2 or 3 years. Is it just me, or do you get the feeling that there is just too much violence and negativity in the world, and movies are reflecting that? I want to have positive thoughts and feelings so why would I want to spend my valuable time watching violent, negative, TV and movies? Maybe that's why they have the specialty channels with the old shows like "The Flying Nun". There must be a market for it.....what do you think?

Blessings, Jackie

When I was pg with my first I had a panic attack in the theater. I didn't know at the time it was a panic attack. Since then I'm wary of going to the movies.

I did want to say that, you're in a state of hypnosis when you're watching movies (or TV, any screen) so the images go directly into your subconscious. That's why it's so hard to "erase" them, and why they tend not to change over time like real events... anyway, it's no wonder that we can't tolerate scary images. Once I had children I could no longer watch shows that involved children being harmed in any way.
So, it's not weird!

I have anxiety at the movies. I think it is the people all in one room in the dark. I don't know , makes me nervous and I always get anxiety. I had had some panic attacks at the mpovies. My boyfriend wants to go to the movies this weekend so I'll see how it goes now that I have the program to help.
