What haven't I Done in the Name of Anxiety?!
Soccermom, I can not believe you do that too!!! I have thankfully been almost anxiety free for 2 weeks (no panic attacks in a few months), but I still make sure that I tell someone what I have just taken in case something strange happens. I think we watch too much TV and read too many magazines. We focus on the 1 or 2 people that something weird happens to and forget about the other 40 million that live normal long lives doing the same things we do!!!
Ahh, the joys of anxiety!!

Do you remember a few years back when Payne Stewart's (famous golfer) plane went down? His LearJet flew for hours with pilot and passengers dead due to a sudden drop in cabin pressure at high altitude? Well, after hearing the general direction that jet was traveling, I decided to get out my atlas just to make sure I didn't have anything to worry about??!....OH MY GAWD! - It was coming directly at us!! After hearing how much fuel was left, I finally reasoned everyone living in my city was "safe". But I have to admit I considered warning my relatives who live 40 miles south to be on the lookout!! How absolutely ridiculous...the odds of that plane coming down in anything other than an empty field (which it did - 100 miles away)were astronomical! LOL Just goes to show you how very, very good I am at "What if" thinking.
Hi all,
I am new to the forum, but had to register and post when I saw this string of comments. I was having a terrible day with my anxiety and when I read some of the comments on here I realized that I am not alone.
So, here goes..........
I had the carbon monoxide thing as well.........I would crack open a window each night (it was winter) and my husband would be freezing...........
I showed a Neurologist the strange twitch in my foot and he pointed out that it was a spot where a main artery is located and the twitch was my pulse...........
I woke up one morning ( I was a teenager) and there was this straight dark hair sticking out of my chin........I went in to panic mode thinking I was growing hair on my face........my mom came to look at it and it was just a hair from a small paint brush...............
One time I was so wound up and worried about something that I put eye glass cleaner in my eye thinking it was eye drops........then I worried that the eye glass cleaner was going to make me go blind...........
I could go on and on.......I have had anxiety since I was in grade school.......it comes and goes.....sometimes at times of stress and sometimes I have no idea why........
Thanks again for helping me to feel better today!
I'm so glad I found this forum!

Hi, this is good. We are really funny, aren't we?
Some of the things ive done and continue to do sometimes:
I am a sometimes smoker, and if I am having a cigarette outside, and someone comes, I hide because I don't want him to see me. I am forty years old. Like, who cares?
my computer got a virus and I freaked out because it gave me anxiety, so I avoided my computer for a few days.
I would agree with my kids because I told myself I couldn't handle conflict. lol
I was obsessive about eating, because if I ate the right things, maybe I wouldn't have anxiety. I wouldn't eat apples because they are sweet and have sugar. I wouldn't even have decaf coffee because it might trigger anxiety. Well, I was already anxious, so what was the difference? I was going mad with anxiety over this!
I would be driving and obsessing that the driver in front or behind was faster or slower than I. Oh, I better speed up or he will think I am a slow driver, that kind of thinking. Its funny, now to think it even mattered! Who cares?
I, too, worried about germs giving me a cold. I was petrified of getting a stuffy nose, which meant I wouldn't breathe right, which would cause a panic attack. A dry nose in the morning would send me into a panic.
Hope there's more funnies to come!
Helen

Kaytee - that was too funny about the "twitch" being your pulse!
Those of you who are afraid of spiders biting you in the night - my grandmother was afraid of it. She actually had a reason to be, I guess. I remember her having a hole in her leg where a brown recluse bit her. How she dealt with it was she would stuff sheets between the mattress and the bed. She thought it would keep the spiders out of the bed. I don't understand the reasoning behind it, but it worked for her.

Wow, I love this kind of stuff. We are funnier than we think. Remember that urban legend about Bloody Mary, if you go into the bathroom and say "blood mary" three times with the lights out that "Bloody Mary" would appear in the mirror? Well I do! I had some anxiety going to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I thought if I didn't turn on the light then Bloody Mary would appear. The thought would enter my mind on the way to the bathroom and I would get anxious about it and turn on the bathroom light as fast as I could so she couldn't appear! Like that would "get her"!! But even if I did turn on the light I would freak out anyways and think that because I was thinking about it, she could hear me and would show up to spite me.
I remember being in middle school and thinking the world was ending, and it could be any second now, and it would suck because I didn't get to do any of the things that I wanted to do. I was sitting in Home Ec. once and all of a sudden loud classical music started blasting in our classroom. I lost it! I thought for sure that this was the return of Christ and the world was coming to an end and I missed my chance to accomplish any life goals. My heart was racing and I was looking around for beams of light to appear. And then we found out it was the class nextdoor that turned of the TV and the volume was left at a really high level.
Then when I was in high school, my friend drove me to school and we were making a left hand turn and another car T-boned us and we got into an accident, I saw the whole thing comming but I couldnt get the words out in time to stop it.Fortunately No one was hurt but for months after that, I wouldn't be a passenger with anyone, I always had to drive and I would think that I was going to die in a freak accident. So when ever I would come to an intersection, I would be on the look out for any large semi trucks that had just lost their brakes, couldn't stop and come flying through the intersection and hit me. I would wait at green lights for 3 seconds just to "make sure". Im sure I ticked off alot of other drivers with this!!
Haha, how ridiculous and how funny we can be! I have many more that I will probably be posting very soon. Thanks for starting this page, I really like this idea. Have a great day everyone!
