Hello Everyone,

I am new to the board, and have been reading all the great answers to questions posed. However, I have had anxiety on and off, my dr recently changed my medicine from seroquel to invega and all the anxious thoughts have came back. I get really weird and acary thoughts and some I cant even mention. I try not giving life to them and ignoring them. Then I try decoding them on what they mean, then I ask myself if I am such an ugly person for thinking these thoughts in the first place. Its hard to describe these things, but sometimes I feel lost.

Any feedback would be appreciated

Welcome Todd. Sometimes the medications have an adverse effect on you which can either go away with time or get worse. I was taking Xanax and Prozac together for a few months when one day I started having all of these thought I could not control some of which included me harming myself. I called my doctor right away and he added another medication. I was on all 3 for a few weeks, then down to just prozac and zoloft and now as of July 7th, down to just zoloft. They say medictions need 4 weeks to fully become effective. I would let your doctor know what is going on, wait out the 4 weeks, and if no change, ask for a different medication.

hey Todd,
yea i feel your pain man, ive had some really sick ones and they would make me feel so horrible. I didn’t want to run cause that keeps them in power and they keep haunting, so when i was listening to the obsessive scary thought tape Lusinda said to face them, so what i did was i let them happen and even though they were so sickening i played them out as far as i could take them and as i did that i (tryed!) to turn them into something funny. Then end result for me was that i took them as far as they could go and came out the other side. I was actually laughing at the whole thing! It was almost as if i completed a loop in my brain. Now today they haven’t bothered me at all. They kinda pop up because yes their is something that the thoughts are trying to distract me from but since ive looked them right in the eyes and beat threw them they just seem like thoughts only thoughts! its really weird and really really dificult. It feels wrong but now im not afraid. I'd most rather you listen closely to the tape and determine if this is something you want to try, but i noticed to that even new scary thoughts that popped in i just didnt care about casue i new i could face them if i wanted. Facing them for me made them lose their value, they get their power because they scary you, they get their power and keep happening cause you cant look at them. So yeah, good luck friend...i think if we keep reaching for something better inevitable we will get there...somehow!!!
Good luck!

Good for you easybreeze, it's completely true, if we look though the old posts, lots of people have scary thoughts, and think they are awful people, or crazy or whatever,,, it's just not true & not having knowledge of how to deal with them and that you are not alone, makes it so much harder!!! Thanks for reaching out!

Thanks for your responses. I'll definitely check with my dr. regarding the rx change. Another question that comes to mind is how would you address obsessive thoughts. its beena while since I listened to the program, but when a thought you dont like occurs, is ok to say stop to yourself or should you let the thought occur? and try not to react to it.. because as mentioned some of of my thoughts are a little twisted, and i thought it would be good to cut them off at the pass sort of speak.

Todd,
After reading your post, I would just like to add a little key to obsessive scary thoughts. Our brains are wired to roominate on thoughts, like a dog chasing it's tale, or a song that just gets stuck. We continue to think that thought over and over and over again, simply because it scares the crap out of us! I'm sure you might already be aware of this, but I thought I would just start by saying that. In getting to help yourself in obsessive thought stopping it's good to say to yourself "this is just my over active mind" and think of something that more occupies your thoughts. For instance, wake think of what your going to make for dinner that night, or what you're going to by from the store. It can be really simple, it doesn't have to be huge. So every morning you wake up think of something new for that day...like today to disrupt my roominating mind, I am going to think about what kind of new clothes I need to buy, what color, how they would look on me...etc. Going with this and not giving any power to your scary thought will really help in getting your mind out of the roomination, and it lesson's the scare of the initial thoughts. See, you don't need to face them directly all the time, just realize that it's how your brain functions, and distract it like a kid. Hope this helps, I'm working on it myself. And remember this technique takes some time to master, so don't give up on it.
Peace to you, and everyone.
Emilie

Hi all! I have been dealing with anxiety for over 5 years. Sometimes I feel great and sometimes I'm almost affraid of myself. I'm currently just takin Xanex whenver I have really scary thoughts. I started the program several times and as soon as I feel better I stop. Sometimes I feel that I'm the only one that can feel the way i do. The scary thoughts just keep coming and coming...And then sometimes I feel great! Does this happen to anyone??
