Dealing with knee replacement
I really need help with this...I have myself a full blow panic attack over the chance that I might have to have my knee replaced. When recent injections to help my knee didn't work it has come to this. I am mortified. Sick to my stomack..can't eat..Even talking to my best friend who had 2 knees replaced at the same time hasn't helped. I did forget to take my Paxil for two days and took it last night. Is it possible that I have caused it because I forgot my meds. Today i took 1 and 1/2 dose of the Paxil to help me...I have the program but haven't used it for years...I do drink a lot of coke and coffee.....Can someone please help me find a way out of this so I can function????
Sounds like reviewing the programs session on how to stop panic attacks would really help you right now. Do you have the program's relaxation audio? That would really help right now too. I have a friend who forgot to take her meds for a few days and it did throw her into a lot of anxiety but I guess it depends on how long of a life the med has in your system and I don't have any experience with Paxil. I've known several people who have had knee replacements (hip replacements also) and they were so very glad they had it done because all the pain was finally gone. I would certainly cut back or stop the caffeine, as this may make your anxiety a lot worse.
I have degenerative arthritis in my neck and there ischronic pain there that is sometimes unbearable. Nothing will get rid of it. It sends me into a panic b/c I don't know how I'm going to live with it the rest of my life. Surgery is an option down the road, but I don't want to go that route even though it could relieve the pain. I guess I'll finally take all I can and break down and do surgery. It will probably be the best thing for me. Good luck to you.
I think it would really help you to do one of two things:
1. Write a worst case scenerio. Write for about 20 minutes. Read it daily for 45 minutes until you no longer have a "charge" to it. REading it for 45 minutes means that you may be reading it several times before that 45 minutes is over.
2. You could also write a success rehearsal on your upcoming surgery (if that is what you choose.) How do you want this whole thing to turn out? Write the scenerio down and read it once a day about two weeks before the surgery.
BOTH will be very beneficial. Your concern is that you want to get over feeling anxious. I recommend the worst case scenerio right now.
