Help Freaking out
Hello I'm new to this and I have a question has any of you thought you were going to die because of some serious illness and then when you see the symptoms you start to get them. Like me right now I'm afraid of dying of colon cancer I went to the doc and he said I have hemmrhoids but after a month of treatment there's still an awful lot of blood down there. So I get on webmd and the othersites to look up colon cancer and all of a sudden I start to get many of those symptoms. (Are our minds really that strong that we can do that to ourselves)? I got referred to a GI specialist which I see on friday. Right now I'm so afraid he's going to tell me bad news that I'm barely functioning my wife is at her wit's end and about to leave me. I need some help/advice to help me overcome this negative thinking. I always think the worst case scenaro and I hate this.

first off breath....and yes I do exactly what your doing. So lets look at the facts that always helps me to put things into perspective.
1. Youve been to the doctor and they told you its hemmroids.
2. blood from hemmroids is bright red which I assume yours is...since you see it and recognize it as blood. Blood from colon cancer or interanl bleeding from the colon is BLACK in color.
3. Hemmroids can last and last and last...some untill surgically removed. The more you strain or sit or lift heavy things the longer you willl have pain and swelling and bleeding. I know cuz I have them too.....thanks to being pregnant two times I now will live the rest of my life with these lovely additions to my body.
My best advice to a fellow hypochondriac is stop googling. I know we think if we get on we are going to see that thing that is going to make it all better but it ALWAYS makes us more scared. Almost all major illnesses have the standard symptoms of headaches, dizzy ect and we can relate them to what we are feeling so quickly.
Your not going to die.
you say quite a lot of blood still what is quite a lot that is a highly individual perspective....what you think is a lot might really not be. if you are unable to keep your underware from being bloody thats a lot of blood...but if everytime you go potty and you wipe you see blood streaks on the paper thats not a lot. Every time you wipe that area you will irritate the very sensitive/delicate area and cause it to bleed. Try to get some moist wipes, and dap the area instead of wipe, you can try to put some hemroid creams or ointments on that area to help with swelling preperation H or Tucks makes some good products. Best of all work on your diet...add lots of water and high fiber foods like fruits/vegatables, whole grains and juices...this will help you go more easily.
Dont freak out...your ok.....your just getting scared from the symptoms and blood is a scary thing but you are ok.

Great advice, dodger. My boyfriend tells me this every time, webmd is the worst website for people with anxiety. Everytime I have a pain I am on there trying to figure out what horrible disease I have. One morning two weeks ago I woke up with back pain, by my kidney. I looked it up on webmd and it said I could have a kidney infection based on my syptoms and that the pain I had was called flank pain. Well of course I started what if'ing myself to death just because I might have had one or two of those symptoms. Turns out, I was fine surprise surprise. I probably just slept on my back wrong. I think you should follow dodger's advice. I'm sure what you are experiencing are your hemmroids and nothing more serious. When you get to session 3 it will def. help you with your negative thinking.
