Is anyone using marijuana to releive stress and anxiety. I have made a commitment with my MD and to myself to finish my 15wk program without alcohol, medication, or marijuana. To get a baseline of my coping skills and the effectivness of the program. He is agreeable to write me a prescription after the therapy if I feel I need this. I have been self medicating with marijuana for over twenty years and feel I benefit from the short term effects and the as needed administration.
Please don't label me I'm just looking for help.

I used to self-medicate with marijuana. After a few years though I started getting anxious as a result of smoking marijuana. I know a lot of people use marijuana to deal with anxiety and depression. It was hard for me to quit because all my friends smoked and I wasn't really successful until I moved and started over with new friends.
If you really want to quit, you will. Good luck.

I won't label you but do you find it addictive?
I believe that anything that has been denatured has a tendency to have addictive properties. I have a real problem with chocolate, I have to have some everyday, I find that if I go without it for several weeks (on purpose, many times I've gotten off of it) then all of a sudden have some not only does it taste strange (not as good as I remembered) but I get the shakes.
A lot of "cooked" stuff seems to have addictive properties, from drugs to bread!
I do think that by getting off the substance you will be forced to deal with issues on your own and that is a great thing.

If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it.

I beleive I am more psycologicaly dependent then physically. I don't note any symptoms but I do desire it when my stress elevates . Right now I feel enpowered that I have quit 3wks and I am committed to my program ,breathing, and positive thinking. Although in the back of my mind I can't wait until this 15wks is over.I don't know if I want to quit, it does help and its natural

I have two friends who have a script for medical marijuana and one says it works really well for her anxiety, and the other says it makes her worse. The amount is regulated by the doctor. I guess it effects everyone differently. The problem with self medicating and buying on the street is that from what I've heard the plants are now sprayed with a lot of insecticide and you really don't know what poison you're ingesting or inhaling along with the marijuana.
Mary is about as right on with her point about street drugs as you can get. Unregulated forms of narcotics include stuff that will make you sick, or kill you. The long term effects of ingesting insecticide is frightening. There are so many case studies linking some forms of neurological disorders and even cerebral incidents, back to exposure to pesticides. Learn how to get a handle on what causes stress and anxiety. You cause it, and you can learn to stop it. No labels for you here. None of us need those, do we? We just want you to be safe and well.
