My Onion
I will have to think on it as to why I smoke? I've been doing it way to long, and as a health worrier you'd think I would get rid of it, years ago. I seam to use it for everything. If I'm tired,to stay awake. if i'm hungery to post pone a meal. Drive down the road, got my smoke. Talk on the phone ect...there are times I hate it. but it don't last. Sometimes I don't even realize I lit one. It is a puzzle to me. When I quit for 3 months, I did the patch. I of coarse was scared, it made me dream wild dreams. Some of the other junk you can use, sacres me too. Esp. the side affects. I think one day I'll be done with it, but I need to figure out a stradgy to deal with it. I always admire those who do quit, for me it will be one of the hardest things I will accomplish.
I've thought of acupunture, but that is for cravings. I need to discover the emotional need.

Its not the easiest thing to do and it can be hard to imagine your life with the negative effects of smoking. Maybe seeing it in someone else's reality could help you out.

I first found my reason and that was that nobody is going to desire getting a treatment from a cigarette smelling shiatsu therapist and cigarettes drained me neways so I wouldn't be able to complete collage.
A few attempts before that I had quit smoking, white sugar and caffine all at once so I was not using those things when i quit the last time. I was working a physically demanding job at a warehouse and I was lifting weights before work and the job was full time. I was also using the relaxation cd to calm myself down.

Thanks for sharing. I'm getting my reason set in my mind. I'm thinking my reason is I'm tired of thinking about it. Its always a health worry, I have quit caffine, cut sugar way down, and its summer so there are so many activities I can do to work it off. I'll let you know how I do. I'm counting my smokes and each week I'm cutting 3 less out.
You broke a big bad habit! You did GOOD!

Peeling my onion one skin at a time here....my smoking is about one cig a day.....WHY dont you just quit a non smoker states? Well, I would....I find it satisfying and relaxing. I never smoked alot, made me ill. I dont smoke anywhere except when I drive. Driving in NJ is just a full time stress filled intense travel experience that you wonder why you dont have 10 cigarettes in your mouth at once. But, I will eventually move from here and hopefully the cigarettes will go the wayside permanently.
Cream cheese, That is good !!!(you are only smoking 1 cig. a day!!!!) I'd be thrilled!!! I can't imagine the traffic in New J. OMG! I freak going to Cleveland!
That is a funny thought, of 10 cigs. going at once.LOL...Traffic crazy, I guess we should just pick up a blackberry, put on a gps, have some popcorn, call a friend and join the rest of the drivers out there!

Good job, I wish you well on the quittage. One thing i found that helped out on one of my attempts to quit smoking was i decided to quit when i got sick with a cold or flu. My body didn't even want cigarettes and that helped me get past those first 3 days of hell.
And thank you for the compliment. It is a big bad habit and alot of the time i downplay things like this.
Cream cheese (the blueberry kind),
Wow thats not bad just 1 cigarette a day, i bet you will have that beat sometime within the next 6 months.

I got 2 habits i'm wanting to change right now...1 is when i get really anxious/stressed (which can happen from financial problems, job hunting, lack of sleep etc), I will jump on the computer or videogame console and play for the whole day. The 2nd one I just stay up really late and again the videogame thing comes into play with that one too.
What i tell myself is that I need to go play the game to distract myself from the anxiety because i feel that i cannot handle it. I feel that it is the only thing that will calm me down and keep me from losing control and I feel doing relaxing and calming things will actually make things worse. The funny thing is;
I don't feel more relaxed when i take the videogame route,
I don't have less anxiety,
I don't feel less stressed or irritable,
I don't feel more creative or more energetic,
I don't feel more motivated to do things,
I don't feel good about myself and it doesn't make me happy.
What i do get however is;
I feel guilty for not doing other things and not doing things i want to do,
I feel lonely because i've isolated myself from others,
I feel more hopeless & discouraged because i'm doing the opposite to what i need to in order to recover,
I'm more irritable and angry
I can't tolerate stress as much
I feel useless
I feel like i'm getting nowhere
I make my anxiety worse
and many other things.
The way i actually feel when i distract myself with videogames is how i picture i would feel when i think about using the relaxation and calming techniques but its really the exact opposite.
I have at one point taken the time to log how i felt after doing relaxation everytime I did it. I will post my findings in the next reply as i need to find it and i don't want my posts to look too overwhelming to the readers.
