I am new to this course (just got it in last month)I am not new to anxiety, depression,OCD,etc.etc since I was kid. Have struggled for 30 years with this crap. Been through therapy, been on antidepressant meds for years. When I heard about this course it sounded like something I might try. Desperation - have tried it all it seems and any starter input would be nice.(trying to get familiar with this website has even been a challenge)

John,
When I began the program, getting familiar with this website was a real challenge for me as well...still is somewhat.

I'm on session 6 and the program has helped me tremendously so far. session 2&3 especially. The 6 steps you will learn about in session 2 have been what controls the anxiety and panic attacks for me. Hopefully they will become less frequent [already have] but just knowing we can control them makes them less frightening.

Hang in there you'll see soon you will feel better John!

Best to you and enjoy the program...good luck and I wish you peace and tranquility!

I remember how overwhelmed I felt at first! There seemed to be so much material and so much to do everyday...but it becomes very familiar and you will look forward to doing it because you will notice how much better you will feel. Cutting out coffee for me was very important, now drink decaf and don't miss it so much anymore.
In the beginning the sessions actually brought on anxiety...that is apparently normal but it will pass. For me hearing all about the negative symptoms brought on stress. Also when I first got active in the peer-support group it was depressing to hear all the negativity and being compassionate I felt frustrated that I could not be of more help. Now I don't try so hard and time-out if it feels too overwhelming.
Don't worry about anything...I find repetition and listen to the cd's often is what works for me.

Have a good weekend!

Barbara

Welcome John,
I have had anxiety, depression, and mild OCD my whole life. I'm 43 years old. I've been on the program again and this time really trying. I believe it will work for you because I believe it's working for me. You have to throw yourself into it 100%. You will get to where you want to be. I'm on Session 4. What Session are you on? Believe in yourself and you can do it. I know if I can you can too.

And when you truely are in the here and now, you will be amazed at what you can do and how well you can do it.

I just started the program as well and feel completely overwhelmed. Not only is the online support a little frightening, but the simple realization that what I have been feeling for years has a name with real symptoms. I have watched the introductory video and listened to the first lesson. It was hard for me to just listen because I felt like there was just so much to process. I am hoping that the repetition works for me. Something has to work because I feal like a visitor in my world.

Welcome rudisgtg04,

Take your time with the program. There's no rush with this. Take the pressure off of yourself and just do the work. I always wanted to deal with my anxiety myself. Being a man I thought, well I can deal with this and turn this around. I don't need any help and thought this way for a long time...stubborn I guess. I didn't want to appear weak to anyone but finally I realized I couldn't get over this on my own. So I started the program and I'm doing a lot better now and so can you.

And when you truely are in the here and now you will be amazed at what you can do and how well you can do it (from the movie Peaceful Warrior)

John3:16,

Breathing to calm yourself helps me. Breath in for two sec in through your nose and for four sec out of your mouth. That is what helps me because I have to think too much to be able to breath that way. Talking on here has helped me alot more than anything else. I have people that I pray with and for and people that pray for me and that is what I need more than anything. I also do word searches. It helps me out so much when I am stressed or upset it makes your mind get off of it. Don't give any of it any authoity, like telling yourself that you are going to get through this all and you will be ok. You have made it every other time and you will this time to. It gives you positive self talk which helps out a great deal. This program has helped so many and I know it will help you as well! I have came along way with my anxiety since I have been on here talking to people and joining a prayer group and knowing that others were out there just like me and I wasn't crazy. Keep your head up it will get better. God bless you!

I was overwhelmed at first too - what with the coaching videos, the workbook, the cd's, the dvds. Now that I see it is recommended to go through the program twice I feel better about the whole thing - Like I don't have to get 'it all' the first time through, and also by session 4 the anxiety goes down quite a bit so I think most people feel more relaxed about the whole program by then.
