Did anyone else have a social anxiety as a child/teen, improve significantly, only to have job-related stress trigger major anxiety attacks? Did you change careers or learn to control it?

Hi Linda,

I definitely had anxiety as a child and really noticed it come back when there was some major changes / negativity at work. I switched jobs when this first occurred, thinking it was the job I was in. Then I found myself at another company / job with even worse anxiety. This was when I first identified myself as having depression. Once again, I left that job - blaming it and found myself at another company / job with the similar symptoms coming back.

I have not really made a major career shift when I changed jobs. I have gotten so depressed and lacking in self-confidence, that even though another career has sounded appealing at times, I find myself just as scared of failure once I started down other paths and now believe that it may mainly be the self-confidence and a lot of issues this program addresses that are real issues for me. So, for now, I am sticking with my current job and trying to tackle these issues with hopes that I will have a clearer mind once I have made progress with the program.

Hope this helps!

Hey Linda487,

I'm new to these forums, so bear with me. I've been working in Manhattan for nearly 22 years! My industry (technology) has allowed me to switch jobs more frequently than most business-related jobs. Your post got me to thinking about the reasons I left certain jobs and I'm beginning to look back and see if I had a similar pattern to your currrent plight!

I never had social anxieties as a child, but I was left to myself quite often until the age of 10, when I began living with my Brady bunch family. I never made friends between 5-10 years old and I think I've carried that into my adult life. I have many 'acquaintenances', but few close friends.

I'm currently experiencing severe stress at my job, and I don't want to quit the job! I hope we can help each other on this topic.

Jobrelated anziety
1. downsizing.. and what is disgusting is I have been in my department (school district) the longest, ( (10 years) 10 years) but it is howlong you have been with the company that counts, That out of 20 in mydept, put me in #3 to be transferred out of my position. The person who came to my dept 5 months ago would stay.
2 if I am transferred out... or maybe even if I saty, my 12 month salary may be reduced to 10 months... a big loss in salary
3 let's make the salary thing a little worse... in the world of education each year your raise for experience bearly covers the cost of the family health insurance costs... so in some wsys you never get a financial raise. BUT at your 11th year and 21 year you get substantial raises (12%). Well I am due my 21 year BIG RAISE. Were talking @10,000. Well guess what... the financial condtion of the school district (like everywhere else) is bad and the likely hood we will not get our experience increase... so beside loosing 2 months salary, I amy not get my raise

Job realated STRESS!!!!!

to stay on topic of this thread I will detail into other stressors, family health, and legal issues (lawyers mak an hour what it take me 2 days to earn)!

Stress! And one of the statments in the tape/video basically said I should ignore it all, and want less?
