Need Help
To whomever: I am feeling very poorly today. My heart is constantly in the high 130's , sick to my stomach and extremely short of breath. I feel it is a wakeup call from God about smoking. I had tried the patches and that is when my heart beat went up. I almost feel like I could die. It is not a panic attack, I took a xanax and so far it isn't working. So I am asking that anyone who believes in the power of prayer and spiritual warfare please to pray for me. I really feel this is a call to obedience and I really need to quit now . I know God loves me, but I also know He chastizes those He loves. Yes, I am a little scared.
Many thanks and love to you all,
Mary

Hello Mary:
I know how scary that is. Even tho' you are feeling so bad, please try the breathing exercise. Breath in 2 one thousand (twice).
Breath out very slowly. Breath from the stomach. Very slowly.
Try to lay down for awhile.
God is not punishing you (chastising). You are doing a lot of this to yourself.
You have built up in your mind that quiting the cigs. is just horrible. And you are afraid.
I'm not saying that you don't have a physical problem. You very well could have. But you are making yourself more uncomfortable.
So breathe very slowly and tell yourself that you are at peace.
I understand what you are going thru'.
When you get to feeling better take a warm shower and shampoo your hair. Put on some nice cologne.
Start thinking of yourself as a non-smoker.
Get some peppermints to hold in your mouth.
It is not going to be that bad. Honestly.
Change what you have been thinking about it all.
Start walking every day.
You are going to be okay.
You are a winner.
You are not a victim. You have control of what you put into your mouth.
I am praying for you.
Make up your face and put a smile on it. You are a winner!!!
Don't curl up and let those cigs walk on you.
You will not die from withdrawal.
Because you are a warrior woman!!
God bless.
Take your first step!!
Love and blessings!!

Cornflower, Thanks so much for your imput. I am feeling a little better now. I did do breathing exercises like I always do. My oxygen level stayed great but just couldn't get the heart rate down. I finally managed to fix something to eat and then decided to sit out on the porch for awhile. My heart rate started dropping after I had been out for a little while, then I got a phone call, came back in and my heart rate went up again, but I seem to be okay now. I will eventually overcome this, but you are right I am probably the one beating myself up over this. It's something I generally do! I know God doesn't make junk, so I AM A WINNER!
Thanks and much love and blessings to you,
Mary

Hi Corn flower and Mary,
I am sorry that you are going through. Try to relax as Cornflower said above. I will pray for you, but I want you to know that the use of a patch may cause systems like this, if you continue to smoke. So one of the 2 things have to go.
I do not think any less of you if you do smoke and it does not weaken my own faith, because what you do to yourself really has no effect on me. As far I know, you could have such a strong faith, that you could handle and get bitten by snakes and nothing would happen to you.
I might add to try a peppermint chewing gum, to go along with what Cornflower said. But try to stop the cigarettes immediately, at least for the rest of the day, because the patches contain nicotine and you may be suffering from a bit of nicotine poisioning that may be causing these reactions.
I will pray for you as soon as I get this post off to you.

Oh yes, that is right! I'd forgotten about that.
You must not smoke with the patches.
My sister cut the patches in to two pieces when she quit many years ago. She couldn't handle a whole one.
It is just not as bad as you dread it to be to finally quit smoking. But I know how bad we can make it for ourselves. It is our thoughts about it that make it so hard.
One thing that I learned at a smoking cessation seminar was that I should never visualize a Cig.
The habit of holding the cig is strong. And the instructor at that seminar told us that if we let our mind's eye start seeing that compact little cylindar (a cig.) that we'd be sunk and go get a cig.
And you know , she was right.
So when I finally quit, I wouldn't let myself visualize (bring up a picture) of a cig.) When it would start coming to mind, I would get up and start washing up the laundry again. As I mentioned in another post, I wanted the smell of the tar and smoke out of my home. And I washed and rewashed curtains and everything for
days on end.
So I would spend lots of time cleaning and recleaning.
And the better my home got to smelling , the more happier and proud of myself I was.
By the end of 12 weeks, I was like a new person and it was like I had a brand new apt.
That was over 12 years ago.
Thanks, Gman, for a good post.

Cornflower and GMAN, Thanks for helping. I am not wearing the patch. I tried it one day last week and my heart started racing and I was really craving a cig so I took off the patch. I have cut back down to 4 a day, even when I am in a panic!. I still am not sure what happened yesterday, but it is behind me now and I am focusing on today. The minute I woke this morning, I could feel the panic coming on and decided I couldn't run from it so I might as well face it. I did well, no pills! I am still alittle shakey, but I am okay. I was thinking about a movie I had watched a couple of years ago called "Fighting the Giants" and that is what I intend to do.
Anyways, thanks again for your imput. I know that most of the time the problem is with me and I am the only one that can correct that and believe you me I sure am working on that one.
Blessings and love,
Mary

hey there Mary... i just read your post and wanted to pray for you right now...
Dear LORD,
You are LIGHT and in YOU is no darkness at all... please, LORD, let Mary hear from YOU in a clear voice so that she may win this spiritual battle that is raging in her mind... YOU are the Author and Perfector of our faith and YOU know her completely... thank you LORD, for planning in advance this day and the victory she can experience in YOU through this battle... thank you LORD for the battles that make us stronger and build our character and teach us how to become more and more like YOU... may she rest in YOU as YOU fight this battle and win it for her and may she learn more about trust and rest through this... LORD, YOU alone are God and YOU are so much stronger than all the evil forces in and outside of this world... please let Mary experience YOUR peace as she rests in YOU tonight... in Jesus' prescious Name , i pray, amen"
much LOVE,

Mary, i've been reading and re-reading 1 John 1, 2, & 3 during my morning walks and i remembered something in there that may be of help to you right now...
1 John 3:18-24:
"Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us."
so, LORD, i pray this Scripture for Mary... that You are greater than her heart and You know everything... please deliver her from the nicotine/cigarette addiction and set her free immediately and without side affects so that she may rest in Your Love... because we have confidence before You and receive from You anything we ask... and we ask this in Jesus' Name and by the power of Your Holy Spirit that You gave us... thank You for this indescribable Gift... may we use it to bring You glory...
much LOVE,
kj
