I am so thankful that I have heard His voice...I get chills just writing this...now, I can tell you from my own personal experience that that voice was not our God...I thank God for this...and, I know for sure God wants you to live a joyful, happy, productive, fulfilled life...He said He knew our every thought from afar off...Can you believe the Bible says..That there is a book of remembrance of everyone who thought on his name...God is love...Remember that always...Full of love and compassion and mercy...He said that His mercy endureth forever, even forever and ever....I do believe that God wants us to acknowledge Him, and to put Him first in our lives, but, He also wants us to be happy....Would you deny your child of clean pleasures in this life??? Or would you want your child to be happy??? Ask yourself these questions...Remember God loves us more than we love our own children, and that is hard to imagine...You are in the Hands of A Loving, Caring, Passionate God....Never-ever forget this...May God Bless You Is My Prayer...

Hi Philly and Ms T Bones,I guess what I really need to find out is if this is God speaking to me or if it is my anxiety. Let me tell you the story as to why I am feeling the way I am feeling. 3 years ago I had a huge breakdown in my car while I was traveling I was dealing with stress and anxiety and did not know how to get over it. I felt like a voice told me to get rid of my Bow at the time and I disreguarded as anxiety and went on with life. Well here I am 3 years later wondering if that was God and I feel like I may be putting it in front of him because I did not get rid of it. Now everything I have been thinking of seems to me like God does not want me to do or have, and it really is driving me crazy. How do we know what his voice sounds like I have heard that it can use guilt or it is supposed to be a positive uplifting voice. I am soo confused.

God is speaking to us in a clear voice, not one of confusion. His over riding message is that He is in Control, and His word is unchanging. Here is proof that God gave the earth to man to be stewards of the earth and gave man dominion over everything in the earth and under the earth and in the seas. See Genesis: 1: 26

Rest assured that God is not the source of any negative thoughts. These are thoughts concocted in your mind and planted there by the demon of disorder that has gained a foot hold in your thinking. They are thoughts, do as in the video link supplied by Ms. T Bones. Speak positive words and these negative thoughts must flee. Amen

I was really touched that you had selected a very important phrase out of the bible and that I was striving to gently share with all here about being still in knowing that he is God. As depicted in the story of Mary and Martha, and the contrast between both these 2 serving the Lord. Jesus tells us that Mary was looking for or after the better part. Providing us the affirmation of the being still and knowing that He is God.
The second part, was in no small measure provided by you, Ms T Bones, and was clearly given to you by the Holy Spirit. It is out of the mouth of Elijah, of listening to that still, small voice. Affirmed in the book of 1 Kings 19:11-12

I think that we have something beautiful going on, that the Spirit of God is working in and through us, and because of that love, I try not to force anything down anyones throat. Please, this is not intended to make other Christians defensive.
It is about our approach with those that have not stated their faith or belief, and God prepares and equips us, just as he did the Apostle Paul, when Paul traveled through Greece, and addressed many non-believers, in a way they could understand. He then reasoned with them, to bring them to the living waters of the good news.
It is amazing to me, how the Spirit works in and through His people. The beauty of this forum is that we get to see these wondrous works just as fast as we can post or respond. Are you guys noticing all these developments.
I wish I could have completed this response before I had to leave for a 2 PM doctor's appointment, but I am sure God will use it regardless of when this post goes and turn all things together for good. Amen

Hi. I confess that I did not read all of the postings before mine. I don't want to get into a theological debate. 
Jesus says in John "My sheep know my voice and they follow me." Knowing God's voice comes from your personal love relationship with God. The more time you spend with Him, the more you know Him. In your devotional time, just simply ask God to make His will clear to you. I believe that He will as you walk with Him. He speaks to us in several ways- prayer, the Bible, the Holy Spirit, circumstances, and other believers. When God is speaking, then all of these will line up. If one is giving a different message then you need to wait for more confirmation from God. He loves you and He WANTS to talk to you. It is HIs responsibility to make His will known. If you want to know what He wants, He will tell you. "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart."
I believe there comes a point in our walk with God where He asks us for everything- even the things we love. Does He want to take them away? Maybe, maybe not. He wants us to be WILLING to though, if he asks for it. We take a step of faith that makes God our #1. He is Lord. Whatever He wants He gets. We completely surrender to Him and His will.
If you have not read it, I would encourage you to get and read "Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God" by Henry Blackaby. It is available through Lifeway Christian stores. I think this study will answer a lot of your questions. I learned sooooooo much of how God speaks through that study! I wish every Christian would get it and read it!
In the meantime, ask God to make His will clear to you. Suzanna Wesley taught her sons John and Charles (see your hymnal for some of their songs) that anything that comes between you and God, that thing for you is sin. Is God asking you to quit hunting and fishing or is He just asking you to quit doing it on Sunday since He wants you in a church instead? Ask Him to clarify.
One way that I learned to discern between God and Satan is how I'm being talked to. When God convicts us, we feel remorse, guilt for our sin. But He doesn't crush us. He doesn't tear us apart. We sense His love even though He's convicting us. Satan, on the other hand, is the Father of Lies and he comes to steal, kill and destroy. He crushes us. He makes us feel worthless because we did or didn't do such and such. He feeds on our anxiety and drives it.
I hope that I have helped. I hope that I've answered your question. I tried to stay away from deep theology. My husband handles that. He's a pastor. I'm just a wife of a pastor who loves Jesus with all of her heat, soul, mind, and strength. Jesus can have anything that He wants from me. Even allowing me to suffer anxiety panic distorder- why? i appreciate the comments. It really does feel like I am being crushed, no love in it whatsoever. I have noticed in my life that I will sometimes concentrate my thoughts on one thing and one thing only and it seems like it is impossible to break. If God wants my Bow or guns he can have them. I just want to know for sure this is his voice and not the voice of the devil. This is very hard to discern. I have been studying alot lately more than I have in my entire life so that I can get over this anxiety. This anxiety and the guilt that comes from the thoughts is how I thought God spoke when condemning me for something. I am realizing more and more that the devil uses alot of tricks to keep us down. It feels like that if I don't just start selling everything though that the thoughts will not go away. I feel guilty for just about everything now that has brought me joy in my life, any kind of hobby. I really do just feel like selling it all. Please keep me in your prayers because I need the strength to keep going until God shows me a clear path.
"Dearest, sweetest, heavenly Father, Abba, Daddy, I come before you to lift up one of your dear children. He is hurting. He is struggling. He is willing to follow you and do whatever you want. Also, once I prayed a really long time for my husband...he had gotten himself into a predicament, and I was petrified...As I was making our bed, the same small still voice spoke to me, and said, "Be still and know that I am God!" That situation worked itself out...
So, don't believe any loud voice in your head..That is just a negative thought...Our Jesus is full of love and compassion, and He has the kindest, stillest voice...It is soooo hard to describe, unless you hear His voice for yourself...It fills you up peace...I would love to hear His voice every day all day long...
Please, I beg you to believe what I am telling you...One day in Heaven, we may have this conversation again, and I am sure Jesus will smile.....May God Bless You In Every Area of your Life is my Prayer....
