Jesus spoke about this:
"As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"
Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains." (Matthew 24:3-8 NIV) Isn’t this exactly what is happening in our world today?
The word for earthquake in the original Greek was "seismos". This isn't necessarily an earthquake, but literally a great shaking. So, technically, a volcano could do the same thing. But, if it indeed means earthquake, consider the following;
We read in Luke 21:25-26:
"And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken."
Even if you don’t follow the news, it's not difficult to recognize strange pattern of events that are happening all over the world.
1900 to 1949 = Average 3 major earthquakes per decade
1950s = 9 killer earthquakes
1960s = 13 killer earthquakes
1970s = 56 killer earthquakes
1980s = 74 killer earthquakes
1990s = 125 killer earthquakes in this decade.
2000s = Not sure yet

Admittedly, one of the reasons for the increase in frequency is because there are more seismographs located all over the world. But, in any event, they are increasing.
Have a good one all.....Jim
