Yes I have found it very helpful. Staying in the present moment and mindfulness have been around for a very long time. After studying a few of the age old philosophies and religions, I'm really seeing that a lot of our current so called "modern" therapies are actually some very old concepts. The Chinese Tao contains some very wise words that can be applied in our modern lifestyle. These ancient philosophies have helped me a great deal with my anxiety.

I find Buddhism most helpful and have been meditating daily. One idea is to think "skillful" thoughts...those that nurture and allow you to feel compassion and lovingkindness. "unskillful" thoughts are those that lead to feelings of despair etc. I find meditating with a group the most helpful.Let me know more of your thoughts.

The little I know about Buddhism is that it helps you stay connected to the world (nature and energy of your surroundings). It helps a person find peace from within not in the commercial or competitive world we Americans are use to. Living in the present and in harmony with others and nature seems to be important aspects of Buddhism. I meditate but I don't do a specific meditation. I find meditation helps a person slow her life down so not only the mind can relax but the body can heal and be in balance. The 'skillful' and 'unskillful' thoughts are the same idea as the positive and negative thoughts Lucinda talks about. You might be interested in the book, "The Secret". These are ideas that many ancient cultures practiced. There it explains the metaphysics and how positive and negative energies affect our lives. Maybe this is why you enjoy meditating in a group. You are receiving the positive energies from these people. What is exciting is these concepts help one feel in control of ones life.
