Prayer, and anxiety/depression.
Hi, Im fairly new to this but here and eager to learn. I will admit I am not the best christian, but I do think I say that because I am somewhat down on myself. I have not been to church in a while because I am a college student, and well, Im always busy, and would rather go to my home church. I started experiencing the severe anxiety and depression badly a year ago. It has somewhat calmed down now, but I pray and pray and pray that God will ease the anxiety- that I will feel normal again. I've always prayed, and was raised in a church going family, but
Is it wrong to do this? Ask God for help? Since supposedly this is partly chemical imbalance in the brain, and why we are depressed and or anxious all the time. Or is it ok, because I need a change and a miracle from God. I guess I am reaching out here, because I pray so much but God is making me wait for some reason. Instead of letting me return to normality. Am I way off base? Or do other's feel this way? Maybe Im just confused... but I do know I need God to take away this anxiety and depression.
Maybe I just sound completely dumb, in typing this. Not sure...
- I know none of you know me, but if you could be so kinda as to pray for me- It would mean the world to me.
-thanks

prayer is a great place to start, Zach. keep praying--keep sharing.
it might be good to pray for a church that you could attend more regularly, when you're at school. that way you may find more people to guide you and partner with you in prayer--and you can be a blessing to others--and practice your skills there.

My dear friend I aslo have had panic episodes since young and I know what you feel, i ahve been feeling that and also the same questions, God is there and keep giving thanks to him for all the good things he will give us an answer, he has in the past and he will do it again and again, God bless you.
Hi Zach - This is my first day on the program so I can't give you any advise in that area. However, I can tell you that God hears every single word you say and HE CARES! Remember the verse (John 11:35) where Jesus saw how depressed and grief-stricken Mary and Martha was because of the death of their brother? What did he do? He cried. He understood their pain enough that, even though he knew he was going to raise Lazarus from the dead, he cried. He truly does understand you and he knows you are hurting. Hang in there. I doubt that you will ever know how many people are praying for you right now. I'm one of them.

Zach,
God loves you, and knows none of us are perfect!
Praying is an awesome thing to do. I dont know if you have this program, but God also uses doctors and tools like this program to help us.
He doesnt want you depressed or anxious,, but part of being a human is we have frailities and conditions which is why God gave us doctors and programs like this one..
God is number one in my life, and I depend and trust him,, and YES he can heal a person immediately OR, we have journeys we go through to help us gain strength, and understanding..
This program was sent to me by God, an answer to a prayer i had a long time.
I beleive you can still get it on a 30 day trial, to try it out for free.... I will keep you in my prayers... God bless you,, Nelly:)

Zachart,
I could definitely see why you would be confused about this issue. It's O.K. to ask questions, and I think all the posters have done a good job in answering your questions. One thing to note is one of the most common sayings in the Bible is "Do Not Be Afraid"!
This means that God knows that all of us humans get scared a lot, and His true and loving desire is to comfort us. He's not yelling at us when He explains that, but as a loving God, He knows we need to hear that from him. There's scripture that says "perfect love casts out fear", and that means that His perfect love for us is what casts out fear. The more we can connect with His love the better off we are for anything we're facing in life; not just anxiety.
However, what happens sometimes when we just get afraid, and we're praying all we know how, and we're thinking it's because we don't have enough faith that we're afraid etc.? Possibly, but not necessarily. Our hormones could be reaking havoc on us or there could be this physical reason. Of course, if it is physical, we have every right to do what we can ourselves whether it's taking medication, excercising, doing this program, etc., and ask God to do what we can not. I do believe chemicals are involved; however, I do believe that it's not that simple, and I do believe we can change our brain chemistry by other means than medication. But even if it's physical; ofcourse, we should ask for help from him:). He wants nothing less from us. The scripture about boasting about our weaknesses comes to mind. God loves it when we admit that we need Him to do what we can not, and He's glorified in providing us with that strength. It doesn't mean we stop doing the work or that we don't try on our end-just like a cancer patient takes the Chemo and then asks God to heal the cancer. It's the same thing.
Another delimma is that some of us go too far in being mean to ourselves thinking we're not doing enough. This often isn't true either. We have to be realistic in our efforts as well. A lot of us with anxiety are just too hard on ourselves. I am really addicted to the saying, "Reach up as far as you can towards God, and let Him reach down the rest of the way." I just think that I am better off lately knowing that I did what I could, and I let God reach down the rest of the way.
I'm concerned that you may think God is punishing you with anxiety because you're not going to church. That's not true if that's a concern of yours. His desire is to guide you and provide you with healing. He'll let you know what you need to do on your end, and then He'll do the rest:). God doesn't use anxiety to punish any of us.
I will definitely pray for you. God loves you:).
God Bless You,
