Ihave had an OCD of checking my pulse since this yr has started. I calmed down on it for a little while, but now I do it again most often. I only seem to do it when my heart feels like it is palpitating, or beating fast. Sometimes I do it while I'm just laying down just to make sure my heart rate is where it should be while resting. Well last night, I was resting getting ready to go to sleep, and I was checking my heart rate, it was not beating in the healthy range that it's supposed to be in. I paniced a little and have been thinking about it off and on all day. I read that a resting heart rate should be between 60 & 100 beats per minute. Well usually mine is between 60's and 80's, last nite it was between 57, and 61! It should not be in the 50's right. Am I exagerating, or should I call my doctor? Someone respond...

Brandi...My hubby and son's heart-rates have gotten into their 40's....They usually run in the 50's, but, everyone's heart rate fluctuates..

I used to go around for years continually checking my pulse. I thought sure I had something terribly wrong with my heart.

I began checking my pulse when I was extremely young, probably around 20....I am now 46, and I am still alive...LOL...

My heart would flutter, skip beats, race and pound out of my chest!!!

I really wish you could let this heart thing go, or take action and see a doctor, so, you would not feel the need to go around the rest of your days checking your pulse!!!

I pray this gives you some consolation...God Bless...

Thx again Ms. T Bones. I just need to let it go. I wish it were that easy. Im not as bad as I was a couple of monthes ago, believe me! I have had different tst ran on my heart and they were all fine. That's why I can't understand why can't I just let the heart thing go. I guess if it didn't do some of the things that it did, I wouldn't be worried about it. Maybe one day I'll wake up and not think anymore about it. Hopefully.

I had the same situation starting this year and had many tests and a couple of event monitors done. At night my heart rate got down to 36 but my cardiologist said this was nothing to worry about since my echo, stress echo, and other monitors came back ok(I know, easier said than done). Some days I am still worried but I have gotten to the point where I rarely check my pusle at all for fear of how low, skippy , or high it might be. Regardless, I am sorry you are going through this and I had this same situation for a few months starting in Jan. SOme days are easier than other, but try to ignore it - Honestly, the heart testing is what I think has alleviated some of my worry.
