I'd like to run this by all of you. I have OCD, but had it controlled the past year. I now have a 3 month old, and have a list of anxiety things going on. My folks are out of town internationally, my boss is out of town internationally, and I am here with my 2 kids alone. Support system non-existent. This past weekend, I was supposed to go to a wedding of a very close relative, and the guilt of not going because of the kids was going on for weeks. The day of the event, my husband and i had a great time with the kids, but the next day, I kept thinking something happened that night, and I sleptwalked and drove to the event. It doesn't make sense. I can see myself driving and then at the wedding reception-in my pajamas! How embarrassing. I keep checking my miles on my car (no way I could have gotten there and back in under an hour and the miles difference don't add up). The checking got so bad, I drove to the site today, and nothing looks familiar. This has happened to me in the past, & my doc always says is was my anxiety manifesting itself in my dreams. It is so real though.
Does this happen to anyone else? I hate to ramble, but the thought and fear of going crazy like this is too much. I took a Xanax last night to take the edge off, but with no relief.
Any advice?
OCD? Anxiety guilt
Hi Lucie,
I'm not a sleepwalker myself, but when I'm in the throes of anxiety I do not sleep and worry that I'm becoming mentally ill, so I can relate to that part. I get up and read or meditate. I choose something comforting like the bible, psalms are good, or a meditation book. Maybe you could try listening to relaxing music while you are reading or listen and participate fully in the relaxation CD. I have also gone into the chat room to talk if I can't sleep, everyone there is very supportive. Hope this helps.

Hi Lucie,
I have suffered with OCD since a child, but did not know what it was until I was 19. I am now 38 and recently had to stop my OCD meds (Which worked extremely well) because my depression was really bad. The drug they put me on could not be mixed with SSRI's. By the way, the OCD drugs were LUVOX and BUSPAR and they worked great, stopped the double checking and the OCD thoughts. When I quit the thoughts came back really bad, but now that has gotten better and now I am double checking. Anyway, back to your post. When you say you have a 3 month old and your anxiety has been really bad. By any chance are you worried you will do something to your 3 month old. If so, this could maybe be adding to this sleep working feeling you are talking about. I never had that. However; I had really bad OCD thoughts about hurting my child, but I knew I would not, that it was just my OCD. It's pretty scary though to think those thoughts and it makes matters worse. Just wondered if you were having those kinds of thoughts and maybe you are dealing with it in your sleep. If you are having thoughts, know that you are not crazy and nothing is wrong with you. You just have OCD. Hope this comforts you in some way. Feel free to private message me if you would like.
