Is it OCD or am I crazy?
I am so glad I found this site - I too was diagnosed with OCD however I have Post Partum OCD where my thoughts are about hurting my baby. When I first started having the thoughst they freaked me out to the point where I was scared to be alone with my baby. Then my shrink put me on 40 mg of paxil which has calmed me a lot so now when I have the thoughts I dont freak out I think it's cause of the paxil but then I worry that I am a crzy person because I am not bothered as much by this thoughts. Also sometimes the thoughts feel so real or the image in my head seems real almost like I'm about to act on them! I know that sounds scary but I think the OCD makes me believe I will lose control and I dont want to - my shrink tells me that's part of the disorder. Can anyone else relate? I need some sort of reassurance to make me feel better - also a symptom of OCD!
cweb,
Hi and welcome.
I am sorry for your situation. There is another thread here by chrit exactly with your thought of harming your baby. I also have a thread where my friend had scary thoughts of harming his wife. (Just change your baby for his wife.) He never has.
Check out this link, especially the fourth paragraph.

You will see that your scary thoughts are just mental noise and do not reflect your personality or desires.
Here is an excellent book on obsessions. My friend praised this to the high heavens.

You're not crazy. It's just OCD.

The thoughts will make you feel that. Oh boy, did my friend feel that when he was near his wife and a sharp object. Your shrink is right. It sounds like you have someone who know about his anxiety disorder. Also sometimes the thoughts feel so real or the image in my head seems real almost like I'm about to act on them! I know that sounds scary but I think the OCD makes me believe I will lose control and I dont want to - my shrink tells me that's part of the disorder.
