Hello, my name is Aleshia. Does anyone else do this? I suffer from trichotilamania.. It is the OCD aka "hair pulling" I literally pull it out. So bad right now and i have to wear a wig. My oldest son who is 21 months old I've seen almost do it. I don't want him to think it's ok or anything. If someone has gone through this OCD I would love to talk to you. I have never got to talk or meet anyone with the same problem. I feel so abnormal and a freak. I wish i could stop and have my own long hair. Do you think this program could really work? I've been on so much medication I barely have a memory of my childhood to teenage years and i'm only 25. I feel like I'm going insane.

Aleshia,

This program is very very very useful. I have heard of your disorder, and there's more information at http://www.trichotillomania.co.uk/

Any type of OCD can be treated the same way, and the tools in this program are very useful.

Wishing you lots of luck

Shiksa

There are others on this site who have the same type of OCD that you have Aleshia. They have been in the chat discussing it a couple times. I would check it out sometime. If you bring it up in there im sure there would be lots of people who can give ya some input..

Hey there are sure that you dont have alopecia?
I have that plus OCD I'm a hair puller I have 2 bald spots right now on my head I have to wear my hair up but I also have alopecia so it falls out on its own.
I really good at picking and pulling though when I'm nervous I can pull for hours and it does not hurt my head at all.
Very weird I looked on Web Md and they have sights regarding the hair pulling it says that it can be caused by OCD,Anxiety, and depression. So you are not alone.
Just hang in there and try to stop picking and pulling =)

Hi there,

Have you heard of Inositol? It is a B vitamin and there have been several studies published about its efficacy in treating trich and skin picking. You can google inositol and OCD or inositol and trich and read the research.

The most effective dose is 18 grams a day. Please consult your MD to make sure it is okay to take for you but since it is a b vitamin it is found to be very safe.

Hey alleshia, I hope I spelled your name right it turned over to a message before I could see your name again.
I had a friend who had trich. She had a very difficult time with it and still does. She is in her 40s and is totally bald from it. I dont know much abuot it but I do know that it is different than having alopecia. I know that there are places on the net for the disorder I have and they also have online groups. Maybe you can find an online group. Also like someone else recommended maybe if you keep bringing it up in the chat rooms or keep posting on the forums about it you will find other people. There is already someone right before my post who has it and she sounds really nice. Its hard to get to know people when you are new but htey are way cool on this site. I wish you luck and happiness.

I am OCD, I know I am obsessive and I now know I am compulsive. I never looked at excessive hair brushing, though that is something I did when I worked in an office. I am a picker. My fingers got so sore and raw growing up. Mom has stated she used to worry I would scar myself. I stopped for the most part the fingers, but now I am ALWAYS biting my bottom lip. Most annoying. Yes, this program has given me the self confidence to know I want my body to look and be normal so it is okay to not pick and pull and all the other strange repetitive behaviors one can take part in.

I had this disorder as a child and finally stopped around age 9. I remember one day I sat and pulled hair for hours (longer than I normally would) It shocked me so bad when I looked in the mirror, I was almost bald. I guess I am "lucky" in a way because I developed acne around that same age so I sort of switched to Compulsive skin picking...It is better than the hair thing at least in my opinion, I also take 40 mg of Prozac for the trich/pick and OCD and it seems to help. It has been a god send for the OCD, changed my life. Talk to your psych and see if the can recomend something. Good luck!

Finally, other people are out there with this! I have suffered with pulling my eyelashes and eyebrows for 12 years now. I was doing really well for about 3 months and my eyelashes were almost all grown back and I actually felt "pretty" again. This has been a never ending battle with me and for along time I felt I was the only one out there. I just set my mind to it and did it. It was the most rewarding thing I have ever felt, so you CAN stop. Right now I'm having a bad time again so they are gone again
