Hey guys,
I'm new to the website. I have a question here.
I have been working very hard at stopping my anxiety and for the most part I have conquered. I have some really bad weeks still but I have great weeks too! and that's been a major step for me.
My question is this.... I have been trying desperately to stop negative thoughts. But whenever I say something positive I get another very quick thought that says "That's not true" Is this OCD? I can't break the habit! It's driving me nuts.
Thanks guys.
Thoughts that just won't go away
Hi Ben,
I call this OCD at its best. You need know that the 'Its not true" is just another Obsessive thought. The thing about OCD thoughts is the content does not matter they all do the same thing cause you to doubt yoursef. I know because I also have these kinds of thoughts like tonight I had the old one "But what if this isn't OCD what if there is something else wrong with me. I had to except that this doubt is all part of the disorder. Yes it did make me anxious and yes I am worried that it will come back again but I just need to keep up the positive self talk. Have you read any books about OCD,or checked out the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation? Lurette

Hi there
there lots of writing around the place about positive thinking but what you you've got to realise is that you can't have just positive thoughts. you need negative ones too. this is part of the duality of life. you cannot "not" think something-all you can do is accept something and let the energy drain out of it . so just let the thoughts be and see what happens mate .
best of luck with it
