Hi there
all suffering is based in resistance
stop resisting those thoughts and they will fade
God gave you your mind and would not punish you
when its troubled -in fact god does not punish people at all -that was made up by religious leaders who wanted to scare us and control us
you perfect as you are
no need to ressist or change anything

Hello, ww!
It seems funny, but the more you try to get rid of these thoughts, the stronger they'll become. It is perfectly OK to let thoughts even as strong as "F*** You, God." hang around in your head. They are not sinful, so don't let them fool you into giving them importance. I know that they are distressing, but the more distress you experience the stronger the thoughts will become. So gently allow them to be there and go do something worthwhile that you like or need to do. Even if the thoughts don't go away you are doing something productive. And you have my word on it.

Fr. Ed - so nice hearing from you!!! I missed your inspiring and comforting words. You help calm me a down a bit. I am trying so hard, Father, I want to allow the thoughts to just be there and linger without me fighting back or re-doing an action while hearing it. I think allowing it is the hardest part, but your "word" reassures me that God is here and will never leave. I ask the Lord everyday to help me carry out His plan here on Earth, because there must me a purpose for me to keep plugging away.
Also, does anyone else experience hurt by all this negative news going on around the world? My heart aches for Annie Le's family (the Yale grad student). Why do these things happen????

James,
I am soooo sorry!!! I think Satan is soooo angry at you and that is why he is placing those thoughts in your mind!!!
He cannot touch your soul, so, just don't pay those thoughts any mind!!!
If God be for you, then, who can be against you!!! Amen and Amen!!!
Keep up the work brother, and do not allow Satan to discourage you in any way!!!
God Bless You Brother!!! Have a great day!!!

James, I don't know if this will help but a few things come to mind here:
1) solitary time with the Lord
2) fellowship with other believers
3) seeing a doctor, as it might be a chemical imbalance that a prescription might help with
4) getting enough sleep
5) looking at diet - anything that can trigger the thought pattern: caffeine, gluten intolerance, allergies, msg, salt/seasonings, alcohol (even a small amount), animal foods, refined products and/or sugars, too much of something or not enough of another thing, or have a blood analysis done with all your nutrient levels
If you believe what is happening is supernatural consult with some fellow pastors about it who are experienced in this arena.

Shif.
If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it.

Thanks for the replys and just to answer some of the posts, I do fellowship with believers, it kind of makes me feel better, I have seen a doctor and he thinks I'm bipolar, even though I don't have the symtons(not right), I get about 7 hours sleep, and I have recently changed my diet, I have seen my pastor about it and well he doesn't really help, he doesn't go through this and I don't know anyone around that does. And finally I have slacked on my solitude with the Lord because of these thoughts I am afraid to talk to him in fear that the thoughts will return. But it's still hard and I ask for prayer and thanks for caring, it's a constant battle that just started to rage again.

I'll preface this by saying I'm not religious, BUT: If god can hear your thoughts, he certainly also knows that you don't want to be thinking these things and are struggling with them. I don't think these thoughts really would matter to god -- I think what matters are your real feelings and who you are in your heart.
In other words, have faith that the lord is more than capable of seeing through your illness and disregarding these uncontrollable thoughts.
This shows, though, that the kind of crazy thoughts we all have reflect what's most abhorrent to us. If you are very religious, then blasphemous thoughts are the most disturbing. Someone who was not a believer would not have those thoughts. But the best thing I've learned through this is that a LOT of us have terrible thoughts. That's the one thing that no one ever revealed in any group therapy I've been in. I thought I was the only one. My thought were generally about hurting my family or doing something inappropriately sexual or profane in public. Hurting someone I love is the thing I'd be most horrified by, so that's what my thoughts were.
And, of course, when I would have those thoughts I would put a lot of emphasis on them, worrying about them, urging my brain to never do it again, screaming at myself internally. Then I took psychology and learned about obsessions and how the subconscious part of our mind have a very unsophisticated understanding of a lot of things, but it does know what's important to us. So if you have a terrible thought, then you put a ton of energy into it by freaking out, worrying, and avoiding anything that MAY cause it to happen again, your subconsious marks it as a VERY IMPORTANT THOUGHT, and it comes more and more easily. By the same token if you pray and pray over them, of course they become the most important thing. If you have stopped praying about positive things, things that are happing in your life, etc. and focused on the thoughts, they truly have become very important. I know it's very easy to do this, without realizing that this is the cause of the recurrances.
Once I learned to just let the thoughts come and to not stress over them, with the understanding that they only came because I was so worried about having them... they stopped.
So with all due respect to your beliefs, I'm simply offering an alternative that others have voiced. Many of us suffer from recurring horrible thoughts and the cause is quite mundane. And many of us have managed to make them stop. I think that the belief that something else is causing them makes one quite helpless in the whole matter...
I also think that while conferring with other believers may be very helpful to you spiritually, it's also good to know that this illness (condition?) affects people of all walks of life, believers and non, and that we have similar experiences.
