Dental Depression
Hello everyone. 2 weeks ago I was experiencing tooth aches but i thought nothing of it. One week later I was at an emergency dentist who needed to extract my tooth because it was so badly infected. On monday he extracted 2 more and next week he will extract 1 more. All 4 teeth were broken already and it was just the roots of the teeth there so this is why they need to be extracted. I have been in so much pain because of this for 2 weeks. I had to take a week off work and I am on a lot of pain killers. I take Motrin 800mg with 2 500mg of tylenol. He prescribed me Vicadin too but it was too harsh for my stomach. I was dry heaving all night and didnt sleep a wink. I finished my anti biotics yesterday. I am still in some pain and it is flaring up my anxiety. I feel like I shouldn't be in this pain and what if it never goes away?!! My friend told me its normal to have post operation pain like this and I barely got my 2nd surgery done on monday. This is making me so depressed. I am always in pain, I cant leave the house and I am always having to take pain killers which make me so sleepy. I am always tired too. Is it normal to feel pain after 5 days of tooth extraction? I did have 3 teeth removed. All on my left side. One of the teeth was so infected it was spreading to my nose! I am having to take my motrin and tylenol every 4 hours because that when the pain always flares up. So I feel like this druggie taking meds every 4 hrs but I am in a lot of pain I have to take them. Has anyone gone through extreme oral surgery and has this happened to you? Does anyone know how long it usually takes for the pain to subside after extraction? I am so sad I cant do anything because of this stupid pain!! I feel useless and becoming hopeless. Thank you for reading.

Hi Holly,
I know first hand about dental issues! I've had so many of them throughout my adult life.
I also know that your anxiety is probably not helping in your healing process.
The pain and anxiety go hand in hand and they kind of set each other off.
It sounds like with your amount of infection the recovery process is going to be longer than average. But it will happen, it just requires a bit of patience.
Try to find some peace so you can heal. This is super important! The pain *will* eventually go away. If you can sleep as much as possible that will help, as our bodies do an amazing amount of healing and repairing in our sleep.
God bless you, I will be praying for you!
P.S. Try to get some probiotics in you to offset the antibiotics and to keep from getting a yeast infection.

Hi Holly, I have been a dental assistant for 13 years and I can tell you if your infections were that bad it will take some time to heal. You are very fortunate, because sometimes the infections are so severe they can spread to the brain and become life threatening. It is good you took care of it when you did. Don't despair, the pain will leave.Originally posted by Holly J:
