We must focus on what Christmas means to each of us.
It doesn't have to be about lights, decorations and consumerism. You don't need money...it's all about the birth of Christ, and hope and joy.
And nobody says you have to get together with family or friends, do what makes YOU happy, whether it is hanging out with your own family, going to church, or going to a friends' house, or just watching a movie by yourself.
Do what makes YOU happy.

MRCleveland, I have been feeling the same way for the last 3 Christmas's. Each one getting worse. It doesnt matter to me whether I had a good, better or bad year. I am depressed for the first 11 months of the year, how the heck can I change for the "Christmas season"??? It even makes me more depressed!! If I had my way I would curl up in bed and not even look out the window until it was all over with. Although I am on session 3 of the program it certainly has help a smidgen so far, but I have a long way to go. This Christmas's my gift to myself is "hope" the Hope that by this time next year, I will feel the joy of the season once again. After all I believe Christmas really is about hope, Joy and Peace. So, I have hope that I will find Joy within, so I can have peace with myself. Merry Christmas MrCleveland.
About Christmas, It is supposed to be in honor of Christ coming to earth but sadly many are so busy, tired, stressed etc. their focus is elsewhere. Christ was NOT born on Dec. 25th. Shepards were still in the fields with their flocks, evidently, the temp. was still at a comfortable degree. Secondly, the tradition of Christmas is filled with pagan customs. Mistletoe, yule log, tree etc. Wouldn't it be more fulfilling to honor the Christ by learning what he taught and strive to imitate it ? Obligations to memorialize are found in the scriptures, Christmas is not taught there. It really is true that there is more happiness in giving than recieving. We all would be more fullfilled if we strive to contribute something positive to our fellow man, our earth, our animals. Try it you'll like it...
For the past years, Christmas was always about raking up my credit cards, dealing with crowds and getting so stressed out that all I wanted to do is go back to bed, pull the covers over my head and sleep until January 2nd.
This year is different for me. The reason for the season is the birth of Christ. I've heard many people say that Jesus wasn't born on Dec. 25th. I don't know if He was or wasn't, but for me, Dec 25th is His birthday. Another reason is that it's time to spend with family and friends. All of the memorable moments I have isn't the gifts I open, but the times I spent with family and friends. Honestly, I don't recall what gifts I was given 2 years ago (or even last year for the most part). I can picture the get-togethers tough. I look forward to them again this year too.
I hope everyone reading this has an awesome CHRISTmas and an even better New Year.
