I am doing the sessions as well as getting counseling and beginning medication.

I am having a hard time getting out of the past though and getting back to life in spite of it all. My classes and work are suffering and I can't stop the downward spiral I am in.

How do you stop? I am about to panic about how bad I am getting.

mcsmitheslc - Just hang in there. You are just getting started in the program. Remember we did not get this way overnight, and It will take time to retrain ourselves on how to react and feel in situations. I know it is an uphill battle for all of us, just try not to focus on the negative, and pick out what is getting better and let that be your focus. The spiraling will stop, but it will take time. Good Luck

A word of encouragement. I started the Program in February of this year. I was certain that I'd live with anxiety the rest of my life and to some extent I do. We live in a world that is not perfect, there are lots of reasons, particularly now, to let our anxiety get the better of us. But all it is is anxiety. 99.9% of the crap I used to worry about has never come to pass - think of all that wasted time. You, we, can overcome whatever we need to. Breath deep, relax, continue believing in yourself and the support you're offered here.
Its hard I know, but you will succeed.

Hi. There is a great piece of information in our early homework that discusses this in reference to the importance of practicing life in the present moment. Dwelling in the past and in the future is where we get ourselves into such a mess. The program will help you learn the skill of life in this moment. The more you commit to these different ways of thinking and behaving, the better you will feel, and gradually those horrible downward spirals will get fewer and farther between, until one day you realize, they aren't with you anymore. Best wishes.
