depression is a killer
Hello everyone, I'm 21 and have suffered from anxiety attacks & depression since I was 14. I take .5 adivan as needed everyday it seems to help with the anxiety but makes me very tired. I have always been to scared to take my anti depressant. My doctor prescibed me 50mg zoloft and its been 2 weeks and I havnt tooken it yet. I attempted a few years back and it made me feel very weird and it scared me. I am living but not living at the same time. I have 2 kids, I dont enjoy anything anymore I cant be happy no matter what i try and do. I have zero energy and just want to sleep all the time. I know I am depressed and ive tryed to over come it without meds but I dont think that i can. I dont know why im so scared to give zoloft a try i have nothing to lose...does anybody else take zoloft? and has it helped?

most of the time drugs are just a temporar thing until we can get ourselves back on out feet. you will be able to do it too. maybe talk to your dr about going on a different antidepressant because the other one made you feel weird. keep up with the program and keep up with the neg to pos. we have been thinking this way for a very long time and it is going to take alot of practice to change the way you think and feel. go for it and do the things you have been wanting to do. step through that wall of anxiety and depression. i am in the midst of doing it too. good luck keep me posted.

Re: depression is a killer
I have had depression for most of my life and have had to take anti-depressants. I used to really fight taking them because they made me feel weird too and I was just resistant to taking medication but sometimes people really do have a chemical imbalance and it is necessary just like diabetics have to take insulin. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation out there and even Lucinda acknowledges that for depression many, many people do need to take medication. On the other hand, 2 children at age 21 is a lot of responsibility - hang in there - be kind to yourself but be pationt and do give the drug a try. I agree with the other poster. If Zoloft does make you feel too strange after giving it a try for a few days or a week then go back to the doctor and ask for a different medication. There are a ton of them out there. Good luck.

I agree with your views, depression can effect anyone at any stage of their life for a variety of reasons that cause the number of attempted suicides amongst young men has doubled .

I took Zoloft for about a month, but it made my anxiety worse so my doctors switched me to Clonazepam. That has worked great for me but I only take 1/2 pill at bedtime because it makes me sleepy. All you can do is try the Zoloft and see if it works for you, if not, have your doctor switch to something else.
