I have been thinking about starting to go to see a therapist. I have had depression as long as I can remember and I have always just tired to deal with it on my onw with no success. I went to see a therapist once at school because Iwas really really low and my ex bf at the time made me go. Things have been so up and down lately. I have had such horrible luck the last few months and it between that and just feeling bad all around i've been a mess. I just cannot not do it anymopre alone. Part of me is like it will be just another bill I can't afford and it makes me feel like i'm weak cause i can't handle it. I have never been able to open myself even to my closest of friends, how can i open myself up for a complete stranger. Does anyone have anhy good advice about find a good therapist? Or had strrugles with going to see one and how you dealt with it?

A good first step is to ask someone you know and trust if they can recommend a therapist. Tell them the kind of therapist you hope to find, and ask them why they think this person would be helpful to you. Web sites also list therapists according to philosophical orientation and location. If you know what works best for you (talk therapy, cognitive therapy, rational emotive, analysis, and so on, then you want to find a therapist in that orientation). It sounds like you are in search of a guide on your journey to wellness and an effective therapist is about as good a guide as you will find. Good luck.

I agree that it sounds like you need an outlet. I think you need to try and keep an open mind and know that you may not find just the right one for you immediately. Feel it out, be open with them and give it a try. I've seen a couple and have been very connected to my current counselor. He understands me very well and I've grown comfortable. Ask for suggestions and then try it out! It's an avenue worth pursuing to help you help yourself.
All the best to you!
