Hey, I know the answer to this inside somewhere but my brain who betrays me sometimes suggested it would be a good idea to start out the day having a half batch of sugar cookie dough for breakfast. Now, guess what? I feel like crap. I know that caffeine makes a world of difference with anxiety and depression, especially anxiety but what does sugar do exactly?
Please be easy on me here, I am not really SLOW but am definitely fighting the sugar compulsion and need some insight, encouragement and validation,
Thanks,
debc
Death by Sugar
Hey deb
Sugar has the same effect on you as caffine does. It will make you high and feel good for about 10 min..but then right after that you will crash and feel bad(like you said you are) and irratable. They best thing I do when I have a sugar craving is chew gum. I dont care how many pieces of gum I have to shove into my mouth it eventually will go away. Once you ween yourself off of sugar you are going to feel soo much better.
Dontthink that you never can eat cookies or candy again. You just dont need to eat large amounts. You can use up 50-100 of your calories a day to have a little treat. That would be something like a 1/3 cup of m&ms, or a cookie. Trust me thats not enough sugar in that to totally make or break you. And if you do decide to have something a little more sugary, eat a piece of string cheese beforehand. This will help(in case you are extrasensitive) to any sort of sugar "rush".
Hope this helps!!

DMP720,
Thank you so much for your help. It is great to have your feedback. It is good to know the limits on the sugar and also great idea that if I have to go there to eat something healthy first.
Thank you also for the validation regarding the sugar and mood thing, it is not as easy to recognize as caffeine.
Thank you again,
Deb

Also, I find that I cannot have sugar before I have had a good dose of protein. Never eat sugar on an empty stomach. My body can handle a small amount of sugar if I've had a wholesome meal first...oh, chocolate is extra anxiety producing as it has caffine in it, so I go extra careful with chocolate.
All for His praise, glory and the joy it gives Him.
