My boyfriend wants to get off his welbutrin 150mg's and has 10 left. He cannot get anymore because he lost his health insurance. . Just curious if youre allowed to cut this in half and with only 10 left how can he taper off these?

Hi Holly,

As with any antidepressent you must taper off slowly to avoid any side affects, he should consult his Doctor. I would call the pharmasist to see if you can cut the pill, it might say on the bottle.

Good luck,
Debbie

Hi Holly, Debbie is correct. First, consult the doctor. Best of luck.

I agree that you need to check with the dr. or pharmacist first. Going off those pills to soon can cause some really nasty side effects. Good luck.

I have actually been on this medication before and I think the best thing to do would be for your boyfriend to tell his doctor the situation with his health insurance. Lots of time doctors have samples of these medications and he may can get you samples of a lower dose and then again one lower and he may eventually be able to taper them off.

Oh ok Tonja I'll let him know about that. I called a pharmacist and they said to consult the dr but since he doesnt have insurance anymore he doesnt think he can. . but thank you everyone.

Even though he doesn't have insurance maybe he can just call and ask. I'm sure they don't want him to have a bad reaction to cutting it too fast.

Hi Holly J,
I am not absolutely certain, but I believe Wellbutrin is one of the time released medicines, and when you cut it in half the time release part is damaged. WebMD might have more information. I do know that Wellbutrin is around $100.00 per month without insurance, so if you can swing it, you may want to refill for another month until you get some answers. Hope this helps! I will be thinking of you both.
