Let's please not let this become a Political or Religious debate
Here are some thoughts about some current issues:
Gasoline - I remember when gas was $ .55 around 1979. I vaguely remember the oil embargo. Gas prices are too high, no doubt, but we have to face the fact that oil is a natural resource that will someday be gone. Now is the time to development new attitudes and strategies and the current crisis will motivate us to fianlly get serious about it.
Economy - I personally believe that while the economy is slow and struggling, we are not in a recession as long as the economy is growing. All this doom talk reminds me of 1991 when we talked ourselves into tough times (to some extent).
War - Jesus said "there will be wars and rumors of wars". As much as we hate war, it is a major reality in this world. We might as well be the strongest and the most determined to win when we are in one. As a student of military history, I believe we will be in more wars in the future so we need to stay prepared.
"In war, there is no substitute for victory", General Douglas MacArthur.
I hope these words will be taken as an attempt to look at some current issues in a more positive and realistic light.
External Stressors
My mom and I were discussing these very topics this morning. People have short-term memories and forget that our nation has survived a lot of really tough times in the past 100 years (WWI, Depression, WWII, the 60's
, Jimmy Carter), and we've always come through it.
I think that the media has to talk about something 24/7, and so they paint a doom-and-gloom picture to fill the time. We need to realize that we are living better than at any time in history, and we will be fine.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves...
who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are we not to be? --Unknown
