Hi, I have a question..... Does anyone know if anxiety can cause high blood pressure??? The last few weeks I've been having a lot of anxiety (not sure why) and I've noticed my blood pressure has gone up (by alot). I noticed it a couple of days ago so I started monitoring my blood pressure. Needless to say, this causes more anxiety for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!

Yes it can. Sometimes it's just momentarily though. I've just started taking a beta blocker for high blood pressure. I didn't know I had high blood pressure. Good news though, it can be controlled so that you won't always need meds.

Don't get nervous. You may not even have it. Do you check it often? And is it always high? If you're not sure, it would be a good idea to see your doctor, if you hadn't already done so.

Thank you DeeDee for responding. I really appreciate it. I have been checking it the last couple of days and it has been 150/86, 148/86, 141/82, 147/84 (those were all with my left arm) the one time I checked it with my right arm it was 140/92. I've been feeling sick to my stomach at times, a little light headed at times, I feel like I get a little warm (but not flushed) and all of this seems to happen in the mornings. I've heard doctors pay more attention to the 2nd number with blood pressure but I've had 1 doctor tell me that they dont like the 1st. number to get over 140. I was thinking about continueing to monitor it and if by Monday it hasnt gone down making an appointment with my doctor. The last 3-4 times I've gone to the doctor the 2nd number has been in the high 80's.
I dont know what's going on!!!!! Thanks again.:)

I don't think those are scary high numbers. My first numbers were higher than those.

Sometimes anxiety will raise the first number. Talk to your doctor about what you should do. It's all about staying well. Don't be afraid. :)

Thank you DeeDee, I called and made an appointment with my doctor but the earliest I can get in is next Thursday (18th) at 4 in the afternoon, so it gives me just over a week of monitoring my blood pressure so I have something to show him when I see him.
Thank you again for responding. It's hard to find people sometimes that will respond to posts. So I really appreciate it!! Thank you again and have a great day!! :)

Hi guys,

I don't suffer from panic or anxiety disorder, but I have high blood pressure. I was put on several blood pressure medications and I am sorry that I was, because getting off them can be just as deadly as if you were not on them at all.

If you are not on any, see a holistic doctor, to try specific diet and nutritional supplements that can be just as effective and less dangerous than prescription medication. It is sort of too late for me to do that, I have already tried this path to try to get off the prescription stuff, and it is too risky.

I can tell you that I have had my blood pressure readings as high as 217/147, and got it down by doing the deep breathing exercises and eating lots of raw garlic. When you have blood pressure as mentioned, and can get it down to 170/100, in a few hours, without a trip to the emergency room, I would say that is significant.

I was in a doctors office the time my pressure was that high and they wanted me out of there, and they refused to treat me unless I went to the emergency room. I went home and did as mentioned, and drank lots of water, and just kept working on my breathing. Praise God, I am still here :D

Some of the best natural agents for lowering your blood pressure are fish oil, and aloe vera juice. But like I said it is best to see a holistic doctor and nutritionist to put you on a diet, supplement and exercise regimen that is right and suited for you.

Anytime you are given a prescription, you can check on side effects, and things that cause contra-indications with other supplements or medication, and you can check on them on this sight:

Hope this helps.

Hi Deedee,

I am glad to be of help to as many people as possible. Funny thing about that link I suggest. It seems I almost always fill the prescription out of reverence to the advice from the doctor, and then when I have a problem, I check it out on that site and then I know why I had the problem. You'd think by now, I would check that out these things, before I just fill the prescriptions. I think it is that perception most have of doctors being God like. It is really an illusion. It's not idolatry, it is just that we think they know more of what's best for us.

Have a blessed day!
