I went to a New Year's party that had a lip syncing contest. It was kind of a big deal: there were coloured lights, amps, neon, and even a smoke machine. There were about fifty people there.

In the past (before Lucinda) I wouldn't have tried, but I decided to lip sync a song by The Police and just be in the moment. I think part of what helped me get through it was that my expectations were lower than they would have been. In the past, I would have been upset with myself if I didn't dazzle everyone and receive tons of compliments. But tonight I just went up and went for it. Some people cheered, some people looked at their cell phones, some people sang along. It just totally didn't matter.

I didn't win (or even come close), but it was a huge emotional victory just to even get on stage.

Yay me. :)

Happy 2009!! :) Yay for you!! :) Getting up on stage and lip synching in front of all those people is a huge deal for anybody, but even a bigger deal for those of us with anxiety issues - I don't think I could have done it. I am very happy for you. Celebrate this victory!!
