I survived work today (focusing on the positive).

Post by sparechange » Thu Mar 24, 2011 8:00 pm

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I started the program last week and just listened to Session 2 last night. I had actually been doing pretty well with the anxiety level for the past couple weeks, but for whatever reason, today was a little rough. We had a massive weather change here last night, and I'm pretty sure that totally screwed with my head.

Anyway... I was determined to finish this day at work if it killed me (which it didn't). I survived feeling panicky during phone calls and a meeting, and now I am posting to this forum while sitting at Panera, having just thoroughly enjoyed my dinner in front of God and everybody.

Although I'm proud of this accomplishment, I know that historically the "day after" is always worse. So if you don't hear from me for a while, you know what happened...

Seriously though, I could use the encouragement as I try to take this day in stride and finish this work week out with flying colors. If you are a praying person, please pray for me. Hope to get to know some of you as we struggle through this together.

Congratulations! I've been having a lot of anxiety at work as well but keep facing my fears. Remind yourself tomorrow of today's accomplishments...each day should be a little easier to face.

Thanks for the response! I've been on this roller coaster a few times now, so I know things tend to level off eventually. Honestly, I just get tired of feeling like I'm on top of the world for two or three weeks at a time, and then slamming back into this brick wall of anxiety out of nowhere. The things I'm learning here and elsewhere are really helping but it's hard not to get discouraged at times like these.

I totally understand your frustration....I have gone through the program before and am back. But very thankful that I knew what was going on early this time. I'm hoping to head off a lot of the avoidance behaviors I've used in the past. Let me know how your day goes today....I'll bet you do great! I'm off today but have to attend two Dr apps with family. May be more stressful than work!

Well, I just made it to the office. A little late, but here none the less. I had a crappy night (woke up at about 4:20 am and couldn't go back to sleep) and had to call my parents this morning to have them talk me through it. I'm exhausted. We'll see how the day goes... Good luck with your appointments!

Remember...just because you had a bad morning does not mean you will have a bad day! It is only anxiety...nothing more...just thoughts. You can do this!
