It probably can - my advise - lay off the scary movies before going to bed ;)

i believe they can. every time i watch a scary movie it always sends me into a panic attack. even some of the action movies. i used to like the thrill that came from watching a horror movie or adrenaline movie, but after my panic attacks started, i can't watch them anymore. its horrible cuz all my friends love them and want to go see them in theaters and im the one that usually options out of it for fear of having a panic attack and losing it. i remember that i went and seen the twilight eclipse in theaters with my youngest sister and fought myself to sit through it, but i had to go to the bathroom cuz it was getting to bad.

I was advised by my therapist, no scary movies, ncis type shows or news. When I follow her instructions my nightmares keep at bay. If I don't I wake everyone with my screams at night.

hey lady,

I haven't seen that version of the movie but I've seen the original. Psychologically it's pretty intense. The thing with panic attacks is you never really know what will set it off.
I remember when I was around 13 or so I watched The Crucible. I didn't even watch all of it because I was bored and tired and was going to finish it the next day. That night I had the worst panic attack I've ever had. It was terrifying.

Point is, you never know what will effect your brain. Images,Feelings, phrases... Consciously you may never notice them, and then later when your subconscious takes over these things can come out. You never know when either, things stay with you indefinatly.
It could be a one time thing or it could be the start of something. You never know. maybe best to keep clear of scary movies for now.

Yes watching a scary movie or tv-show can trigger a panic attack. I remember a while ago I was watching a tvshow Grey's Anatomy. I think it was the final episode of a season where someone enters the hospital en start shooting everybody.
And that night I woke up wit a panic attack.
I also got a dvdbox from a tvshow called SixFeetUnder and it's basically about a family running a funeral home. So in every episode there is something about dead.I noticed that watching that show did make me kinda anxious when I was asleep.
I used to watch it at night and have a marathons. So for now I have stopped watching sixfeetunder and csi shows.
In a couple of months I will start watching them again (but to marathons) because they will have less impact on me.

It could have been caused by the movie or just a random panic attack! Regardless of where it originated, know that there is lots of things to help you to cope with it! If you can accept, flow with the attacks, and observe it and let it do its thing, without freaking out, you will have started your path to recovery!
