Panic while Driving...
Hi Mam, my name is Jessica. I am sure you are very busy and might not be able to personally respond to my message. I am simply inquiring about the driving tapes you said were available from StressCenter.com. My worst fear in regards to panic attacks is driving alone. I only work 3.4 miles away and I have yet, since October, to drive myself. My husband has driven me everytime and tonight I think he is going to give up on me. He has been sick with a fever and can not understand one bit why I can't drive myself to work considering he is so sick. He thinks I am uncontrollably selfish and is very much disappointed in me. I feel upset, good for nothing, and just lost. It's 3.4 miles and I can't even do it....
Mixed Up, like with most panic and anxiety issues it is hard to tell where it is coming from or what the root of the problem was. I started a new job in OCT and I drove myself to work a few times but within a week or two after my job started my husband would drive me to work cause either he would need the car or I didn't feel entirely comfortable driving at night. A few times turned into every time now. However around the end of DEC. I drove myself to work and back but had TERRIBLE panick attacks driving home especially! I would speed incredibly fast on the highway and sometimes I wouldn't know how I made it home. Sure enough, when I did get home that panic would amazingly disappear because I was in my "safe place"...even though I hear on these tapes that there is no such thing. Anyways...at this present moment I don't drive barely at all unless it's around the corner to the convenience store and even then my heart races a little if I have to stand in line to long or something. It's just....depressing....really.

oops sorry i posted nothing before, im just realizing how to post things on here. Anyway i just read everyones blog and thank you all so much for inspiring me to keep on going and not to give up. I know its hard I hate the funky feelings too, sometimes I feel like Im in a cartoon from what the anxiety does to me. I know that God wants us all to have faith in him and there is a reason why we all have experienced this crap, just trust that he sees it all and we WILL make it through it.

I drive long distances at times. 4-5 hours. I find that no matter what, I have control over that car and actually other drivers. They cannot go through me, if they are behind me and getting annoyed because I drive under 100mph then I just let them go around me. 99% of the time you can get rid of the pains in the backsides. I stay close to the right lane, its a slower moving and I dont care what other people are thinking, Its my car, my life and I am driving well and obeying laws. I stay far behind other cars on the highway, in case an accident does occur I have ample time to stop. I dont like tailgators, although a good release of your foot from the accelerator without using the brake will get rid of them. so there are ways. Take your time, enjoy the ride. Stop often at reststops and breathe. I like to drive its the other people that are the problem drivers. I also have a CB which alerts me to traffic and problems far much better than any GPS I have ever seen....its the greatest and listening to the truck drivers is entertaining.
Hi Erin,
I too have the same problem while driving. But, As stated in the program, you have to just keep doing it and if you can, try playing the CD in the car, this will keep you focused and distracted. I find that this helps me. Also, just keep telling yourself this is going to pass and I can do it. You will eventually see a big difference. Also, try to not pull over, you have to face the fear and do some of the skills taught in the CD. This is the only way you will overcome it. Hope this helps!
