Greetings -- WhenI listen to the tape I get a set of six steps that are different from those on the flash cards. Which are the correct six steps?

WW,
Hugs, hugs and more hugs! Stop worrying so much about having the steps in an exact order. Ahhh, we're so good at picking things apart and analyzing them to death that it's sometimes difficult to just use common sense. That's the perfectionist in us, Ouch.
On the tape , Lucinda has already discussed the breathing a few times before she gets to basically listing off the steps. The tape is a bit more generalized, more relaxed and conversational and the workbook and the cards are more specific. If the tapes were too rigid, well, we'd turn them off and not benefit from the free flowing conversation mixed with excellent instructional information.
Perhaps that's why we have all three, the tapes, the workbook and the cards. Lots of info presented to us in different forms so that our minds can soak it in on different levels.

When I used to have to put an end to my panic attacks,(and OMG I had tons of them)sometimes I'd kick right in with the breathing because the hyperventilation was very obvious, sometimes I'd start right off with positive, comforting dialog mixed with accepting and permission and sometimes I'd just go directly to breathing and distracting myself and incorporate the rest of the steps somewhere along the way. Whatever worked for the particular situation and each way worked as long as I incorporated the 6 steps into the process somewhere.

Ease up on yourself!
God bless and hugs to you!

Hey Worry,

I noticed the same thing, but I also took a step back and thought about which of the steps in which order would work best for me!

You'll notice a TON of suggested exercises in the workbooks, too! Choose only those that fit into YOUR life. Remember, we're all learning to be free of this analysis paralysis, among other maladies.

Stay open and free and it will come to you.

Thanks for clarifying. I was noticing that myself.
