Mornings
hey,
My anxiety is usualy triggered by a certain event, but as of recently its more associated with feelings. Everytime I feel a little different, example being something as simple as being tired in the morning, it just triggers my anxiety. MOrnings are an extremely obsessive time for me. My thoughts run wild, and for no apparent reason I just keep trying to scare my self. Just wondering if ythis is normal, how are mornings for u?

Hi aj85,
Mornings were always the toughest for me also. What happens is that as soon as you awake, you're filling your mind with negative thoughts. You feel a little off, perhaps a headache or a pain you're not used to feeling and BAM you throw yourself right into a panic. Then your adrenaline starts pumping and you spiral until you're filled with terror. The biggest thing you have to realize is these are only thoughts. You are allowing them to scare you. They are not real. Try to let them in and out. Don't give them too much attention and then think of something to make you feel more peaceful. Perhaps something good you have planned for later that day or that weekend. Think of something pleasant to look forward to. Always remember the thoughts are producing these awful physical feelings and that is all it is. It is not dangerous. It is not an emergency. Just go about what you have to do and they will pass. It isn't always easy, but believe me with enough practice, you will find your mornings will become more peaceful. I know people say this all the time, but it doesn't happen overnight. You will counter these morning episodes. Just try not to awaken tense and trying to fight the way you feel. It will only make it worse. Just tell yourself it's okay, I'm safe and I will be alright. I always say "try to get out of your head". Think about what you're going to be doing that day and dismiss that chatter that has no truth to it at all.
You can do it!!!!

Hi AJ...I used to get really anxious in the mornings about 10-15 minutes after I woke up. I let it absolutely ruin my day. This went on for months and months. I began to go to bed dreading the mornings causing bedtime anxiety.
After starting the program I learned that for me the anxiety was coming from the fact that I was dreading the day ahead of me because of the anxiety I had throughout the entire day. So as soon as woke up in the mornings I would began to wonder how anxious I was going to be that day which led to more anxiety. You see the pattern. The good news is I eventually got over it and you can to. So don't get discouraged and give up. Good luck to you AJ.

the mornings were a drag for me too, im on day 9 with the program, and i know its been difficult for me dragging myself out of bed, because the feelings i was going through the night before were horrible, but i started doing the relaxation tapes before i go to sleep at night, and immediately play the tapes before i do anything else in the morning, it actually works, the tapes keep my mind off other things, and then the rest of the day goes ok, keep posting, i feel ya.
It's been a while since I've read this post. And I can honestly say that I almost had panic attacks every morning!! I've had a really, really hard time getting over the morning anx & thought I'd just live like this the rest of my life. However, I am VERY PLEASED to say that I've been able to be a little more relaxed & comfortable waking up in the mornings (not so *wired* up).
I think what's really helped me is that as soon as I get up, I have a routine. This is how it goes EVERY single morning!!
1. Go to bathroom
2. Brush Teeth
3. Put on walking clothes, shoes, get headset with CD that I'm on from this program & my water/G2
4. Go for a 30 minute walk
5. Come in, get a quick shower - get dressed
6. Take morning meds, eat a little something
6. 7:30am I'm getting in my suburban going to pick up my Mom from work (she gets out at 8)
Now...after I pick my Mom up, I'm not always as organized & don't really know sometimes what I'll be doing after that. Sometimes this causes a little anxiety, sometimes it doesn't! I'm just extremely grateful that I've found a way to deal with the mornings that is healthy & fun!
But the morning routine has really helped me not be so nervous/anxious when I get up because I know what's going to happen from 6am-8pm!!
Hope this helps someone. Oh, and just for confidence...I didn't think I'd be doing this every day the way that I do. Once you do it for a month or so, it will come natural & you'll start loving it!
