I am a mother of 3 children and 2 of them have disabilities. I am ending session 2 and doing my homework faithfully. It has definintly helped lessen the intensity of my panic attacks, but now my 12 yo has to go through another heart surgery having a mitral valve replacement. I am anxiously waiting to hear from his Dr. on Monday and my panic attacks are getting the best of me.
I have noticed that they tend to come on strong at night when my body is at rest, but my mind is overactive.
I am very greatful that my sons condition can be repaired, but this is his 2nd surgery and we had complications with the first one, thus the reason we are going back for another.
I am trying to stay confident and praying that the skills I have learned so far help me be stronger for all of my children throughout this.
So, I know what I am anxious about, but the fear of complications is really takin a toll.

There are so many diffrent possibilities when it comes to a situation and we always have the choice of which ones to focus on. It is only normal to be afraid of the same thing happening twice but it really does us no good. Fear tells us to prepare but if you knew it would happen again, what could you do diffrently?

Your worries are merely thoughts and I am not saying to just avoid having them because that is definately not going to help you out at all. Something I've learned while taking some classes in mindfulness meditation is to allow yourself to have whatever thought it is (good, bad, neutral) and then bring your focus back to the breath. You could try that, in fact you could try that with the relaxation cd included in the program.

And I don't know if you're religeous or not but some trust that things will turn out definately can't hurt either.

Thanks Mike,

It always helps to hear wisdom from someone else. I have been doing my relaxation cd faithfully and am finding that my breathing and clearing of negative thoughts is helping out. I have patiently waited to hear from the Dr. today, and telling myself I have no control over the siutation, but I have all of the control over my mind and to stay positive.
