Do you have an appointment yet? If you start the Paxil and your Phd wants to switch you then you have to go through that mess.

Paxil CR might work for you though, if your miserable you might want to start.

How have you been feeling?

Paxil was the first thing my doctor prescribed. Most of these anti-depressents and anxiety medicines are in the same family and you can switch between them with no problems, like paxil and lexapro. It is up to you if you want to wait for your psychiatrist and see what he/she wants you to take, but many doctors prescribe paxil because there have been many good results with it and it is used very widely for many different things. It wasn't hard for me to get off of it, you have to do it slowly or you can experience withdrawls, but that is why you go back to the doctor when you want to get off of it so they can help you with weaning yourself. The only reason it was difficult is because my anxiety was still there, I never got help for it just took medicine. Side effects are different for everyone and so are psychiatrists. Mine put me on stronger medicine that I didn't like and that didn't let me function normally and made me sick. Yours might suggest something that is good though. But regular mds know more about anxiety meds now because it is so common and paxil is a good choice. If you see your psychiatrist or talk to him or her soon then personally I would wait just to see what they say about paxil or what they would recommend and then go from there. Good luck.

Hey! Well paxil cr I believe is the extended release paxil that is supposed to last about 24 hours. I was on that but they don't supply here where I live anymore. It is just supposed to work in your system longer. If you don't want to wait start taking the paxil today. Try and take it at the same time everyday, they suggest in the morning so that it will work throughout the day when you are most anxious. It will take a while for it to build in your system and really take effect. I think I started noticing changes from about 1 to 2 weeks after I started taking it, but again it's different for everyone. If you are miserable and you want to start it I think it's a good idea. Good luck!

You can go with generic and that's less expensive.

Obviously you need to listen to your doctor but I do encourage you to be proactive and do as much research about paxil as you can before you begin taking it. You can search the internet and especially pay attention to the side effects even when you first start taking it and also how to stop taking it and what can and probably will happen when you try to stop taking it. I know from experience and should have done more work upfront myself. One of the most important things I learned was that Paxil doesn't actually fix anything it just masks the real situation. Of any success stories I have heard it was that paxil was used as short term while therapy was getting started and then the paxil was tapered very, very slowly.

Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.

klkroy makes some good points. Researching paxil will help you understand it a lot better, that way if you are having some new symptoms you'll know they might just be side effects or not. It's also good to know the effects of when you stop taking it. And no obviously paxil doesn't cure anything like any anti-depressent and anxiety medication, it is there for a little help, and if it helps you feel better that is great, there is nothing wrong with trying some medicine. But research it like klkroy says, that's a great idea. And just look at it as something temporary, you are already trying to get help with your anxiety (this program and your psychiatrist) and you might not have to be on it a long time at all. I wish you so much luck.

Thanks all. I just bought the generic for it. WAY cheaper. i have already researched it online. I always research things before i take them. . .sometimes i feel i shouldn't because than i think of the side effects constantly! so i really really really hope this works for me. I am so desperate.
