my therapist said that while CBT is helpful and positive thoughts are helpful that since ive had anxiety and trauma for years she felt that using a medication to help with the process would be a good idea. she said most of her patients do well on lexapro. i took zoloft in college and it made me feel so negative, emotionless and uncaring...uncaring in the sense that i didnt care about school or grades but i was homesick and missed my family and cats and loved my bf while taking zoloft.

so im worried about lexapro. this is the worst my depression has ever been ive thought about suicide. im pretty sure i wouldnt do it unless this never got any better.

i looked online and at review websites and most of the reviews on lexapro were good. of the ones that were bad it was because it didnt change anything or caused weight gain. not many said they got worse.

ive taken it for five days now and no real change. both my doctor and therapist said it would take at least two weeks.

Hey Kami, I have been on Lexapro for over a year now, and I must say it has helped me soo much! At first I wasn't too sure like you because I wasn't feeling any different right away, that was just me being impatient, and I was tired of feeling so badly. Honestly it will take at least 4wks before you feel anything. It takes a good 4-6 wks for the you to get the full effect of the meds. So just take one day at a time, and do the program, and constantly keep yourself busy, becuase before you know it, you will be feeling alot different in a positive way. If you don't feel any different in 4wks, I would let your doctor know, maybe he could up your dose. I started out on 10mg, and I've only had to up the dosage one time to 15mg., and I have been just fine. So just give it soe time first, it see what happens, one day at a time! Lexapro just keeps you from crying at TV shows. When I am off of it I start writing my suicide letters.
Your expensive program has only made my life more depressing.
The advertisement sounded so wonderful and happy and free I even ordered it while unemployed. I was getting a small training salary while trying to learn car sales, It was my birthday month, I had just gotten my 3rd divorce settlement and I was drinking. I soon had to pay that training salary back and could not sell cars because of my depression. I quickly forgot about your program sitting under my disconnected TV. When I got your deliquent bill letter it was alreay too late to return it you said. you made arrangements to pay it off on my credit card. I also got a payday loan when I got a low paying security guard job in Jan. I had to change bank accounts to even pay my rent (the credit card was with that bank). The payday loan is in collection and along with yours I will never get ahead.
I now realize it is too late for your program anyway. 57 yr old already ruined my life and kids with my depression and anger. All I am living for is to help my 83 yrold Mother who lives in this same part of town.
Is there anyway you can take the program DVDs back and forgive some of the dept??
I tried to call, your card says Personalized coaching from 9am to 10pm EST. Then the recording now says 9am to 5pm.

If I had not hocked my shotgun I would have an answer to everyones deliquent notices. Will God send me to hell for suicide??

I am also on Lexapro. I just started back on it about 6 weeks ago. I was on it in the past and it helped me for a while but then I fell into a bad depression and tried other meds but ended up going back on this one because its the only one that agrees with me. I had my first panic attack when I was 11 and have had anxiety since then and I am now 23. I also have depression and for the past couple of months I've been going through a REALLY hard time. I just got the program in the mail and listened to session one but I am really unsure about it. I also am worried about how much it costs because I am on a tight budget. Is this worth it? I guess I just think nothing will help because I've dealt with this condition for so long.

Hi,
I took Lexapro for about 3 years. It worked very well for me. I was like you at first - didn't feel much of a change and within 2 weeks I was feeling super good!

Give it some time to work, and it will. I didn't gain weight or anything while taking it.I am SURE you will feel MUCH better soon!

JLC, i think the program works well. i mean, im only on lesson two but it sounds very positive and for me its been uplifting. more uplifting has been the forums for me. im not that far into the program because i tend to procrastinate. but it seems a lot of people like it...and it cant hurt. i think its your depression talking thats making you doubt.

Kami, Thanks for responding. I think its my depression too thats making me doubt. I also think to it's the money factor because right now i have the 30 day free trial and i'm anxious about if I can afford it.

I also was on Lexapro for one year and in my opinion, it worked better than all the other SSRI's I had tried. It worked quicker and virtually had no side effects (except for sweating, dry mouth, and yawning at beginning of treatment). Now that you've been on it for a few weeks, do you notice a positive change with your depression?

I tried zoloft twice and after taking it for 2 weeks developed a weird rash on my neck and jawline. The first time the dr said, its not the zoloft you must be allergic to something else- so take benadryl and the zoloft. I was a mess. Quit taking it and rash went away. 2nd time trying zoloft a couple years later as panic attacks were WORSE. I was desperate... Started taking it and was fine until...2 weeks got the SAME rash...? Pharm guy said , wow you must be allergic. I now take Xanax if I feel a big one coming...(ya know what I mean) Its like being slammed by a train when those things hit. I just started this program and already it has taken a great amount of power out of my panic and I have learned much. Sometime I will post my whole story. My symptoms were, rapid heartbeat, dizzy, cold, pale face, shaky, diareah, I had it bad! Its getting better though. THERE IS HOPE in knowledge. My advice is learn everything you can about this weird panic anxiety disorder. : )

Hey Kami,

I have been taking 20mg Lexapro for over a year now and really like it. I am in all honesty SOMEWHAT skeptical if it is really doing as much as I think it is or... if it is just me playing it in my head making myself think it is.. BUT..we all know it reacts to people differently and I have had heard a lot of positive things about it to this day. As for side effects, I had a tight stomach in the beginning while taking it but it soon passed and now all if perfect. So.. I would suggest trying it if your Dr. recommends it for you. See how you like it... Best wishes!
