Is anyone unable to drive themselves places? I am 25 yrs old and I have a horrible fear of driving. I have tried to dive before but this horrible feeling comes over me and I feel all dizzy and disorented and I feel like I'm going to pass out and had to pull over many many times until I could finally make it to where I was going. I have had to pull over before and have someone come and pick me up. Does anyone else have a fear of driving?

I don't know if its a fear of driving, but I hate driving to places far (and I consider anything over 30 mins far) and I loathe traffic. I get sick to my stomach and immediately panic about having to go to the bathroom if I don't get out of the traffic ASAP. I find it helps to listen to the session CDs because it gives me something positive to focus on. I also use the deep breathing exercises to 'float' my way thru a panic attack or avoid one altoghter. I had to think really hard about what upset me and it was that I always had a fear of getting lost while driving or having to need a bathroom and being stuck in the car. I always plan out my routes and my day according to how far things are. Although everyday I have a 45-hour commute to work (there and back) and I try to use this time to focus on the car as a relaxing thing (works for some people, my dad is more relaxed in a car then anywhere) and I got myself a GPS to help calm the fear of getting lost.

Maybe try to pinpoint why the car makes you anxious. Are you afraid of getting lost, do you not like being alone/going places alone, do you feel trapt, etc and then maybe once you find out what's behind it you can work on making it stop.

I have the very same thoughts starr, afraid of getting lost and being stuck in the car with no bathroom like if I broke down.sad thing I can't got with someone even driving me.

I tried last night remote areas drive me crazy so we started down the back road and it wasn't long till I wanted to start pulling my hair it was only about 4 miles I was very weak but we kept going I felt anxious all day and it was hard to shake the feeling but at least I didn't make my husband turn around like I have before and that reinforces the fear I have already found that out.but I share the same feelings I am going to keep working on this because this is the big one for me

There are a lot of people with this problem. I have had it for many years. I have missed out on many, many things. I should have dealt with the problem when it began. I encourage you to deal with this problem until it no longer stops you from going anywhere you want to. I sent off for Lucinda's program and it arrived today. I have a lot of hard work to do. I know it can be overcome with faith in God and belief in myself. Best wishes to you in overcoming this problem, I would hate for you to miss out on happy events unnecessarily.

I have the exact problem. I had my first full blown panic attack while I was driving, and it was not pretty. After that happened, I developed the what if fear of it happening again. This program will help, I have started to drive some, very short distances, but it is a start. I need to be independent, and that is the drive to get over this problem. Hang in there and we will get through this.

I also have a fear of driving. Did you Know that you can also order a CD that Carolyn Dickman made called Driving with comfort. I found alot of useful information on this CD that is helping me.
