Hi everyone! I was just wondering if any of you have almost unbearable anxiety when it's that time of month? It makes it very hard for me to function. I've talked to the Dr. several times about this but am getting no real answers. She just says that yes the anxiety levels can raise during the menstrual cycle. I can hardly take it!!! Please help and let me know that I'm not the only one going through this. Thank you so much.:)

I have difficulty with my hormonal changes too. My anxiety increases around the time of ovulation and really starts to ramp up about 10 days before I start. I become extremely neurotic in those days. I attribute it to being so sensitive to bodily sensations and the traits associated with anxiety. I think it goes like this:

Normal hormone flucuations occur, which I sense, so I hyper-focus on my body. I find things that feel different, and start to catastrophise and over-react. The anxiety ramps up, creating more body sensations, and I hyper-focus even more. I get in a vicious cycle of hyper-focus, anxiety, and worsening body sensations. Until I start, and realize (with relief) it all had to do with my monthly cycle. Then for some inexplicable reason, I do it all again the next month...Eeks!

I'm starting to think this anxiety is due to our hyper-sensitivity to our bodies. It never ceases to amaze me when I meet people that have extremely obvious things wrong but don't seem to be aware of it, or aren't bothered by it. Whether this is an inborn trait, or learned, I'm starting to think the trick to this is to learn to accept change and to let go!!!!

My anxiety gets high around that time as well. I noticed that I start to feel different body changes 2 weeks prior to my cycle. I have spoken with my doctor SEVERAL times as well, and have even had hormonal blood tests done, and everything came back as normal, but I get that way almost every month. Either I am really emotional, or just anxiety symptoms...it is no fun at all, and it is happening to me more and more the older I get...you are not alone.

First of all, manofmusic you have a great sense of humor...LOL

Secondly, ladies this is sooooo normal!!! When you really get that anxiety level lowered to a normal level, then you will not even notice these things!!!

It also helps just to know that this is soooo common in women!!! I think every woman gets a little overly "emotional" during this time of the month...

At least, every lady, whom I know around here does...LOL...

Not very funny, when one is going through it, though!!!

I pray things get better for you, fear not!!! Have a great day!!!

BTW: A hormonal imbalance will NOT show up in your blood work, until you are almost through the change of life...Sorry :(

Hello Ms.T Bones,
Long time since we spoke.
Well, my doctors did suggest that they give me a blood test for hormones to see if anything was low or out of range, and actually my progesterone levels were slightly low, but nothing to be concerned with. I wonder why they would do hormonal tests if there is no way to show any type of inbalances? That is strange.
My doctor told me that he was checking that to make sure that I was not going through pre-menopause, and I was not, of course, and was hoping that I would not be, being that I was only around 30 yrs old at the time.
Good seeing you Ms.T, and take care! :)

Wow,this is funny.
I had my first anxiety or panic attack last month on the 10th of dec. with my menstrual cycle. I had put an iud in in august and hadnt had a period since then. so Bamm anxiety and a period that lasted 7 days(again weird).
Well january 112 Bamm another panic anxiety attack with my menstrual cycle again.
i went to the obgyn and she said it Had nothing to do with the iud or my menstrual cycle. well I said take the iud out anyway! and now i still have my menstrual cycle i guess bec my hormones are all messed up. and i have nervousness everyday. which if i dont control can lead me into anxiety.. Hmm,any connection?
also,Pre Menapause? is that a thing? when are we suppose to be in the real menapause anyway? im 35 now.
Wondering also, what do the hormones levels check for? and who gives that test?/
curious...thanks everyone
