Cymbalta Anyone
well on day 4 i noticed every now and then a hot flash and a quick sweat. Today is day 5 and they are coming more and more. Anyone had this and will it go away as meds get into system......Its kinda scary because this is just how effexor started and effexor about made me crazy the 3 weeks I was on it.
HI,
I was on cymbalta for roughly 2 years and I had to get off. The sweating became more and more. I do not want to scare you but if you ever decide to stop the med, the withdrawals are horrid. I am back on effexor for the time being. If I can help in anyway please let me know and I will let you know what I experienced. I know everyone is different but maybe it's something you can look out for....

I hesitate to say anything at all regarding medication others are choosing to go on because everyone is different. However, I had the same reactions you are speaking of and decided to go off it after about a week. The sweating and hot flashes were really bad and it seemed to kick my anxiety up. I know I did not give it enough time but, it did not work well for me at all. I went off of if without a problem,,,,but, had only been on it a week. I wish you the best of luck because I know how this medication thing can be so tricky and sensitive.
Please do some research on cymbalta before you take it, i have been on it for three years for fibromyalga pain , I quit taking it because it started making me very iritable, This is a very hard med to quit because the withdraws symptoms are awful!!Not trying to scare you, just do your research on cymbalta withdraws before you start.

My personal experience was different.
I was on paxil for 10 years and then on year 9 I was put on cymbalta for nerve pain.
I had no problems getting on it. My pain specialist told me to break the cap in half and mix it in with some pudding or yogert or something like that. Do that for a week and take a whole one.
I had no side effects getting on it.
And it actually helped me get off my paxil. I weaned myself off of 40 mg of paxil in just over three weeks and had none of the brain zaps I had prior when trying to taper the paxil.
I continued the cymbalta for about 6 months after that and then stopped taking that, cold turkey and again, no problems. Which is totally weird because I'm a body sensation freak.
I'm not saying that any of this is medicaly speaking, a good idea, but for me, it wasn't a big deal to go on or off of.
I do want to say that a year after going medicaiton free, I had a total relapse of my pd/a and was housebound within the month. Lost my job, my apartment and had to move 3000 miles away from my fiance to move back in with my parents. And they tried to put me on cymbalta recently and I couldn't take even 3 days of it.
So Paxil it is. (Which I would like to say only gives me side effects when increased to quickly...like more than 2.5 mgs every couple of weeks but other than that, I had no problems and was a totally normal panic free person for the ten years I was on it.)
Good luck with the hot flashes. I used to keep t-shirts rolled up in the freezer when I lived in Austin during the summer months. Put on one of those bad boys and they cool you off for a good while.

I'm not trying to cause panic and anxiety in anyone who is taking it or is doing well on it. Everyone is different. I'm super suseptible to side effects for anything I take, but this is the worst thing I've ever been put on in my life! I just wish I had researched it all before I took it because I'm afraid it definetly did me more harm than good.
I HATED this drug! My dr. put me on it without knowing me (new dr. at the time). I had tried 9 other anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs for both panic attacks and depression (runs in my family and had it my whole life).
I was fine for a few weeks until they upped my dose. Then I became lathargic, irritable and depressed. My husband had just deployed to Iraq and left me with 2 kids (at the beginning of summer). I had just graduated from college and ended my volunteering to gear up to move, but couldn't find the abilities to do so.
I did nothing but sleep and yell at my kids. When I finally had my mom and then my sister come up to take care of me and my kids, they got me to start eating better and go to the chiropractor. All along, I thought I was just depressed that my husband was at war.
I was told that the brain zaps, the continued depression, the lack of focus, the lethargy, the exhaustion where the side effects. When I tried to get off of it, I had complete emotional and mental breakdowns. I got so enraged that I almost hurt my kids and myself.
I've been off of it since last November - 1 year - and I'm still having problems. I tried 5 detoxes over that time - liver cleanses and more - and I'm still having ill effects. I have the brain zaps and exhaustion constantly. I'm still having problems focusing and sleeping. I also need to wear glasses now - after having no problems with my eyesight until I started it.
I just found out, from research online in other support groups and medical reports, that this may be irriversable. I'm scared that I just got my memories erased and I am super frustrated.
PLEASE research this drug!!! Do not go on it until you talk to your doctor about the side effects and other options - PLEASE. I can't stress this enough. It is really bad news for many people. -J
