I don't know if anyone has this type of anxiety but when I'm asked to sign my name or have to write something in front of someone my hands start to shake. I'm embarrased and do not know where this is coming from. Am I the only one???

I use to be like that, but my fear was that signing would commit me to something that I couldn't get out of. Some responsibility. Another reason was that, if someone watched me sign my name, someone could steal my identity or find out things that I didn't want them to know. They could forge my signature to do crooked things. I was really stressed out, huh? LOL.

Christy C, Some early teacher probably thought he/she was straightening you out about writing your name in the upper left--"YOUR OTHER LEFT, DUMMY, Ha, ha, ha."--and it can leave a scar. It can go away with a little help. We might all find such help here. You are not the only one.

I used to have the same problem around 1995 or so. I think I was nervous about the person having to wait on me to write the check. It only took about 20 or 30 seconds, but I think my internal dialogue was beating me up to get it done faster. Not sure, but I don't have the problem any longer. My hand would shake slightly. It was irritating.

I have had this as well. It must be a very commen problem. Since so maney have posted. It actually has this listed as one of the things we might have anxiety over. I don't recommend looking ahead. Just thought that it might help ease your mind knowing that it is actually in one of the guidebooks.

Well, I have a similar anxiety about writing my name while people are waiting. I always think they are watching me to see if I can write it quickly and smoothly and if I don't, then maybe I am forging the name and I'm not really me! And I can't do it smoothly! I always stop after making the first line of the B. It's like a glitch. I can't remember if I had the same problem with my maiden name.
