I was supposed to have a date Friday night, and managed to worry about being sick so much that I actually gave myself a 99.6 fever so that I would cancel on him. I knew it was anxiety because 5 minutes later, after cancelling, my temperature was normal and it stayed that way for the rest of the night. I deserve a gold medal in the anxiety olympics! Has this happened to anyone else?

Hey PF:

I think we've all been there at some time in our life. I've definitely canceled meetings and appointments and dates because of anxiety. Is this someone you've been seeing for a while? Can you take him into your confidence? If so, you may feel more comfortable going out with him even if you're anxious.

Wow! This is a new one. I don't consider a fever until it hits 100.

Was not aware one could make themselves hot by getting anxious.

I have not cancelled any meetings because of anxiety, but I know I have been sick with fear for screwing up, etc.

I was president of my first aid squad for three yrs and my first meeting up at the front table was extremely scary.

At the end I told me dad I was scared as hell (he was a member too) and he said, "no kidding, I couldn't tell - you were as white as a ghost."

Obvisouly after three yrs it really became no big deal because it became the norm rather than someting new.

Thanks Engine for that statement about a fever I had a panic attack the other day when I saw a rise in temperature at 99.6 and completely panicked. Yes it was the Flu but the uncomfortable feeling of it is gone. But I didn't know one could actually have a rise in temperature due to anxiety.....I know the exterior part of our bodies become warm and sweaty under stress....

Anxiety Olympics sound fun events!... How can we create a olympics.. The person with most cancelling meeting win gold medal?
Person who stayed in the house longest win gold medal
Person with more frequently of anxiety win Gold medal
Person with most phobia win gold Medal...

Smile...

Be realistic here... If you really want go to events or meeting dont let your anxiety stop you. Anxiety will be so happy that anxiety won over you. Dont let Anxiety win.. Just go do it your anxiety will go away the more you become stubborn. Anxiety can do number of things to you.. Its Anxiety's dirty game they are playing with you! Look like you probably end up give your gold medal to your anxiety! Not to yourself. How about this win and get yourself gold medal by beating the anxiety?

I guess I am winning. So far it has not stopped me or crippled me.

The worse I have gotten is being nervous about having a panic attack (or anxiety) while performing EMS or Fire operations.

At this point I have made it through the EMS portion, but still working on getting back to normal at the fire house.

Luckily it is volunteer and not my career so I am able to more effectively fight through it. If I was paid, I think I would have had to go out on sick leave at one point. :(
