I have been going through the internet to find recommended daily intakes of salt, sugar, carbs, and any other stuff for people with anxiety. I hate how there are a million different opinions and no consensus. The same thing happens when you look for treatments to anxiety/depression. People want to get better, not read about this doctor squabbling with that doctor or this supplement company squabbling with that supplement company.

Hi Tigerman,

I can tel you what has worked for myself and my husband for anxiety and depression.

Avoid refined and processed foods, IE. most canned foods, frozen dinners, canned fruits, sauces, caffeins, white rice, sugary foods, candy, chocolate, starchy food, white breads, too much juice, many more but this gives a good idea!

Eat home made foods as often as you can. Fish,Chicken,lean red meat( not Too much )eggs (not too many, lots of cholesterol ) Cheese in moderation, red potatoes, brown rice, yogurt, salad with low fat, low sugar dressing, raw veggies, fruit ( not too much in a day...apples, grapes, blueberries, oranges, strawberries, mango,( all good anti oxidents )
The most important factor is a good mix and use some things in moderation.

We all have different health issues and of course age does apply as does calorie consumption and what works for one person may not be great for another. The rule used to be 40 % protein, 30% carbs, 30% fat but that may have changed and fats vary. Use extra virgin olive oil as much as you can in place of butter or margarine.

ELIMINATE caffeine, and sugar. This has helped me tremendously, and my sees a diffrence in me when i fall off the wagon. Also, I have just started taking a multi vitamin and fish oil. I think the fish oil is starting to really help. there have been studies performed where fish oil has helped boost serotonin (feel good chemicals)levels in the brain. I don't know if it is just my imagination or what, but the past few morning I have waken up less anxious, and my pulse isn't racing through the roof. Mornings have been pure hell for me these past few weeks, so it must be doing something for me.

I also started taking fish oil and I definitely feel better. I also take magnesium calcium citrate. I try to stay away from caffeine completely and stay after from sugar as much as possible. It's hard to quit the caffeine or sugar "cold turkey". I would suggest slowly tapering off both. Good luck and God bless.

monty'smom is right on with everything. Tapper off the caffeine and sugar and go for whole foods, range free meat and eggs.
