Hi all,
I have had issues with obssesive yawning for about 10 years now. I noticed it started when I noticed the worring and anxiety. Does anyone experience this and if so what does it mean?

Well, I can think of three things. Not saying they are correct, but they are the three that popped into my mind. 1) maybe yawning is like a nervous twitch for you. My sister-in-law's mother clears her throat excessively when she's nervous and doesn't realize it, I tend to play with my necklace or get the giggles when I'm nervous. My fiance bangs his hands together. Wouldn't be unheard of. 2) The other thing I thought if is when a lot of us are anxious and panicky, we tend to hold our breath or breathe shallow. Your body may just be needing the extra oxygen. 3) Anxiety is just plain exhausting...I don't know about anyone else but during and especially after an anxious episode, I feel like I can sleep for a week. Your body just may simply be tired. Just my 2 cents worth here :)

I have read it some where that yawning is a sign
of anxiety, and stress.

That is fascinating, I don't know if it applies to people, but dogs yawn when they are stressed! I probably yawn alot too, because like the previous poster noted, I'm exhausted from having insomnia. I bet it goes away as your anxiety goes away, let's hope.

>>>It is from the lack of oxygen you have when your breaths are not deep enough or you are chest breathing. I do it too & to me it's like hyperventilating backwards. The belly breathing is what helps the most.

& that shortness of breath is often the reason for the yawn. When you yawn you try to go as deep as possible. When it turns into about 20 yawns a 1/2 hour do you then begin with the other HUGE stress symptoms? I do.

I isa, hit it right on the nail.
It is a form of hyperventilating.
Canadandricky try this: whenever you feel the obsessive yawning. STOP, and breathe 2-4 for a good 2 minute. You will noticed that you will yawn lesser in a day.
Anyways it worked for me

I have been doing the yawn for 2 days and today for the second time I have the feeling of something stuck in my throat thing going on. It's all related. I hope your rough days are better now & God I hope mine get there too!
