Hi Leah,

I can relate. I have generalized anxiety AND acid reflux. Two doctors I have gone to explain that they are very related. I think if you sifted through some of these forums you would find there are a lot of people out there with anxiety and some kind of indigestion issues.

What was explained to me was that everything is connected. Your nervous system to the rest of your body including your digestive system. Often when we are nervous and stressed, do you not feel that pain or uneasiness in the pit of your stomach?

I was put on medication for acid reflux, and eventually got off of it because watching what you eat alleviates it. For instance lactose or uncooked veggies are harder to breakdown so your body makes more acid to break it down and with acid reflux we produce too much to begin with etc.

What helped me was eating the right things and chamomile tea. You can find it caffeine free and it naturally helps you relax ( good for the anxiety and nervousness) and it aids your digestive system ( great for your acid reflux).

Unless you have something to do at a specific time, try not to look at the clock. I find this really helps me because I just get down to getting things done regardless of time. Time is inevitable whether you pay attention to it or not. So get busy write down some things you want or need to get done and start doing them one at a time. You will then look at the time and realize how fast time goes when you are in the present moment. Keeping busy really does occupy you enough that you won't have too much time to sit there and worry.

The way I saw it was that worrying will not make you feel any better. So do something that will.

We are all more than capable of relaxing and getting things done. It gets easier and much more effortless with time. Just take little steps at a time. And once you've seen you just went an hour or 30 minutes or 10 minutes without worrying, you will keep it going.

God Bless and Much love,

Eddy J

I probably sound like a broken record but I cannot stress this enough: dietary changes!

I drank more coffee in December than I probably had in a year and I got acid reflux/heartburn. I also got it from eating bread and wheat/flour products.

You can help yourself get rid of all these crazy symptoms by:

1) going through this program and

2) Making some positive, healthy lifestyle changes in the way of food, exercise, spiritual outlook, etc.

You already had those tests which thank God came back negative, so try taking things into your own hands - you can do this!

Common Food To Avoid For Acid Reflux

Instead of trying out all kinds of foods and have all those that might be offensive to you recorded down in your food diary, you may be glad to know that there is already a list of foods that commonly irritate acid reflux disease. These foods include acidic fruit juices, such as grapefruit juice and orange juice, vegetables such as mashed potatoes, raw onion and meat such as beef. Dairy products like ice cream and milk shakes are also included on the list of food to avoid for acid reflux. Popular dished such as spaghetti with sauce and macaroni and cheese should also be avoided.

Other likely troubled foods to avoid include alcohol, coffee, chocolate and fatty food. Keep away from large meals and avoid lying down immediately after a meal. That would mean try to have your dinner a few hours before your bed time. If these easy dietary changes can keep acid reflux symptoms at check, there is no need for you to take other treatments such as medication and surgery. Diet changes are definitely worth the attempt.

Oh trust me. I understand completelyyy. I'm young, okay, I shouldn't feel like I'm having problems with my heart. But I get these constant pains in my chest, like you said, not right in the center, but where your heart is. And I was at a friends house when it just got really bad, the pain (and this is where I had my first panic attack) My boyfriend rushed me to the hospital. They told me my heart rate was supposed to be around 90 and it was like, 165. They had me hooked up to all sorts of machines. But basically, after that, I went to the cardiologist, he told me acid reflux. He said my heart was so healthy, I should go run track. He gave me medicine for the acid reflux, didn't help at all. And it makes you feel crazy. Not knowing what's wrong with you, it's terrifying. Nobody understand how hard it is until no body believes them about whats going on. It's like, it's painful, you don't want to think your imagining that. Just remember to relax. And you know you're not going to die if the doctors seen you. Just trust him, he's a professional.

I am also with you. I have had anxiety for a few years now and just started having sharp chest pains. I went to my dr and had an EKG, chest xray, and blood work done and everything came back fine. My dr said that he thinks that it's anxiety related. I'm so frustrated with not only the pain, but being so worried and anxious about it. You're not alone in this!
