Surrounded by negativity
I am now on session #3. I feel I'm doing pretty well so far, but it's going to be hard to train myself away from negative thoughts when I was born and raised in very NEGATIVE family and also married into a negative family. Although my husband, thank God, is a very positive thinking person. I am going to have to really work long and hard on this session because I want to master this more than anything I have ever done.

sffl 2000, I experience those inflowing negative thoughts often in my life. Honestly, I think it mostly comes from external sources. Besides your own lifes worries we all seemed to be concerned with the entire worlds worries and problems. I just practice on that BIG RED STOP sign Lucinda talks about when a thought pops up. It takes alot of focus and replacing with postive thoughts. I know its very tough. Its good that you are improving. creamcheese

I have a big problem with contagious negativity with my daughter. It's just the two of us, and we catch each other's bad moods pretty easily. So one thing I've been doing since I started session 3 is listing 10 positive things about me and 10 positive things about her every day. I think it helps with the negativity in general, but most of all it seems to help me not get mad at her.
Funny, I always apologize to her after losing my temper. But do I forgive myself? Nah...

Hey Gisette, I have that problem with my Best friend..hes very negative 75% of the time. when he is in "that mode" I throw it back to him. Or I say " Lets talk about something nice and happy." He is 67 and tends to listen and read all the bad news thats going on in the world and then nicely drops it off in my ear canal.lol....However, I always think positive about him even though he upsets me with his negativity. I just try to ignore him, turn the subject into another, or if its so bad...I may start a feud. But all in all, I accept him because he does have alot more great attributes that I look up to. His general goodness and kindness makes up for it. creamcheese

hey Gisette,
Like your name, by the way. I "moseyed" over here like you suggested. Looks good. I just have to figure out how to get to this forum when I log on from now on (will still check out the March one also). Thanks for your input. I, too, just need to keep that "Stop" sign handy. My free coaching session is tomorrow morning, none too soon. Maybe that will help me. I have a LOT of faith, but this has been a bad depression day, and the positive statements and stop signs don't seem to work as well with depression as they do with my anxiety. I can't pinpoint any particular thoughts that are making me depressed, except maybe the thought of my 4-year-old grandson coming from Thursday night thru Saturday to be taken care of by us while his mom is out of state. He's such a handful (adopted and really cute, but does not listen). Have to tell myself I CAN have fun with him and still get enough rest and program stuff in.
