Nervous about weight gain

I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and I am so worried because I have gained too much weight during my pregnancy. Normally you are supposed to gain 25-35 lbs. and I started at 145 (which was a healthy weight for my height of 5'4 an now I think I'm up to 180 which is a total of 35 lbs! At my last visit I was 178. I have a Dr.'s appt. tomorrow and I'm scared of what the number will be. I have never been this heavy in my life and I'm scared of the stress it is putting on my body. In the beginning of my pregnancy and middle of it I didn't go crazy, but sometimes ate something I shouldn't have and the portions were too large, but I always felt empty. Now I am controlling my fat intake and portions much more, but it doesn't matter I can feel the weight coming on. I am also trying to walk more, like 20 minutes 4x a week or more. I can't do much more than this because I am at risk for preterm labor. I have more than two more months to go, I can only imagine how heavy I will be. Any suggestions?
Hi Lynn, hang in there girl! I gained 50+ pounds with both of my pregnancies and the weight came off after the first one. The second I retained a little but that was my fault for not exercising but I was a bit busy taking care of a toddler and newborn!!
Just try to eat right and keep moving. Some people gain alot no matter what they do. BTW - both my kids where over 9 lbs at birth!!!

Hi Lynn-
Oh I hate to see you so upset regarding this weight thing. Let's pick it apart and see what you can control and what you can't.
1. Good job on walking for exercise. Any movement is good. If it's OK with the doc, try to walk daily. It will help with the anxiety, too.
2. You've already gained the initial weight, so you can't take that off. So let that go. Going forward eat good whole foods, minimize processed stuff and sugary stuff, and fill up on veggies with fiber. And drink water.
3. The number on the scale at the doctor's office will be what it will be. It's not a message of doom, just information.
4. The stress of worrying about your weight is worse than the stress of being a certain number. You are being very proactive and protective of you and the baby. Focus on this and sticking to your guns regarding food.
I wish you well. I had 4 sons myself, and remember hating getting on the scale too.
After you give birth, stick to your healthy eating habits that you have already started, and the exercise ones too, and you are way ahead of the game.
